I wish this became a standard offering at more places for their high abv beers...when I go to a place that specializes in maven approved beer on tap it would be nice not to have to order a full pint of a 10% beer. This would allow the consumer to taste more of the beers avialable. What say you?

I'm a fan of it. Love that Corporate offers it.

You can get anything in a 10oz pour at Pelican, which isn't 5oz, but better than 16oz. I know Bulldog serves the "fancier" beers in 10oz pours, but I don't think you can order just anything that size unless something has changed. The POS never gave that option on regular beers in my memory.

I think beer bars would be just fine if they offered everything in either 5, 10 or 20 ounce pours. Tasters, Snifters, and Imperial Pints, no need for other glassware.

I said the exact same thing in the CBD thread

Why? The places that do this (Avenue Pub) charge you for the price of pint when they give you an 8 oz pour. I want my money's worth.

No they don't.

At least, I've never had that happen.

Yeah, I've been to several places where you get a better price per oz when you buy a pint/imperial vs 8oz, but I've never been charged the full price for a half pint.

This makes absolutely no sense.

No they don't. Most of the time you can get smaller pours of just about anything depending on the style. Most beer bars do that. It's the places with lots of beers that aren't beer bars that don't. You know the ones with the frosted mugs.

Places I go to will give you a 6 oz pour of anything and reduce the price accordingly. They do this even if the 6 oz pour isnt on the menu.

The Beermongers has a pricing chart for there beers where they charge in 4 oz increments. You can order 4, 8, 12 , 16, or 20 oz pours.

These are mainly "beer only" places, though, so they go out of their way to cater to mavens...

One of the best things about having a high abv beer on tap(like bcbs) is being able to just do a small pour instead of committing to 12 oz. or more. The older I get the more I can't drink much of the big beers without consequences the next morning.

Yeah, that is what I like about the Ave Pub. Don't always want to drink a 16 or 12oz.

I'm sure you will sleep better tonight knowing I fully endorse your proposed policy.

You have my vote, and I would like to add my name as a co-sponsor to this bill.

Exactly. I love tasting those beers but good golly a pint of a 11% beer puts me to sleep.

Agree 100%.

I think more and more are and will be doing this.

I have no problem paying more than half price for a half pour. If a pint is $7.00 for example, it is fair as far as I am concerned to charge 4 or 5 for a half.

As an aside, some places don't pour a full pint for the high proof beers.

I agree

I'd be fine with it too, but purists want the "proper" glassware for the type of beer. I don't think I could tell the difference, but probably some people can.

I don't think anyone would get bent out of shade if their Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier was served in an imperial pint rather than a weizen glass. I don't think you can tell much difference between them. At a beer conference a few years back we did tasting out of different shape glasses, and other than a tulip/snifter, there wasn't any significant difference.

I don't think many BR places carry weizen glasses anyway.

If a beer bar really wanted to carry the full array of glassware and match them all up properly, more power to them, I just think it's unnecessary.
