I've never been a spinning real user but I have a few for the wife. She is having issues with the line not respooling right on retrieval, making "loops". It may be user error but I was wondering if there is a specific mono made for a spinning real? And if so do you have a perfered brand? Thanks

Just need to make sure the line is spooled on correctly.......Take to your local tackle shop.

If not spooled correctly the line could be twisted causing the loops. Also if you keep feeling when a fish is taking drag you are twisting the line.

30lb power pro for newbies. 20lb for expert. Mono higher than 8 lb is disaster on spinning reels.

As others have said, it often has to do with how the line was put on. Always have the line come off the spool counter clockwise. Do not spool it with the spool rolling like you would do with a baitcaster.

The bad news is, no matter what you do, you will have loops, I like to call them assholes, from time to time.

Sorry if this has been said but, when putting line on a spinning reel the line should come of the spool in the opposite direction as the reel. Example, if the reel spins clockwise the line should come off counterclockwise . Hold the spool so you are looking at the front of it not the sides.

Also manually close the bail, less stress on the reel and you won't get loops like you do turning the handle. Make this a habit and it will come naturally and fast.

I vote for 30# powerpro braid.

I like to use 2' of mono for a leader (to break off for hangups). (but I'm open-minded for better ideas)

What is it that you like about mono?

Braid has the tendency to tangle like thread sometimes (hence I suggest the 30# rather than the 20#), but usually does so more around the terminal end (cork, hook, etc).

In my experience, it doesn't twist and make assholes like mono does.

And it's so thin that you can put a ton of it on a reel, so if you need to cut it, you are losing a smaller fraction of the line.

It's a little trickier to spool, so I'd get your tackle store to do the first (or all of them) for you.

To me, it's much more sensitive and more enjoyable to fish. Good luck either way.

I call bull shite on all the methods to load a spin reel with mono.

After making say 2 casts the line will right itself, unspin and wind itself, lay proper on the spool

I use mono on every reel. It catches fish just as good as braid.
