Under this dumpster fire of an administration....the IRS has become nothing more than a liberal dimocratic political hatchet machine.

This is totally unacceptable!!!!!

Have you tried calling the IRS lately? Good luck getting through without a lengthy hold. They are severely understaffed. No idea if that is due to budget cuts, but their level of service has dropped off significantly in recent years.

Guess who cut their funding?

It's the one agency you don't mess with

I know how to save $10.9 billion...

Seems like such a waste. This process could use some heavy simplification and automation.

Quick...fast and in a hurry....we need to do away with this agency. Go to a flat tax and be done with it.

Thanks GOP dumbasses.

I posted a thread here about a year ago noting that cutting irs funding would mean taxpayers getting fricked.

A flat tax isn't going to happen. The AICPA would likely step up and bring in some big donations to protect CPAs.

IRS needs to learn the government way

"Do more with less".

They think it's this:

"Do less with more".

IRS=Doing less and less...and getting paid for it.

It isn't the AICPA. It would be the real estate industry, all charities, medical industry, lots of industries would step out against it on the individual side.

If you are talking on the corporate side, same thing. Tons of large corps would oppose it for many reasons.

You aren't really hurting them at all. Just means more automation and less qualified workers when you cut their pay. And more headaches for taxpayers.

The IRS actually had a lot added to them with the ACA. They're basically the enforcement agents of ACA. The budget cuts from Republicans aren't surprising in the least with that in mind.

At any rate, both parties have long used the IRS and the tax code as their political playground. Both are in desperate need of massive overhaul.

Congress cut the IRS budget by $346 million for the budget year that ends in September 2015. The $10.9 billion budget is $1.2 billion less than the agency received in 2010. The agency has come under heavy fire from congressional Republicans for its now-halted practice of applying extra scrutiny to conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.
So 4 years ago the IRS budget was cut by 10% and now it will be cut by 3% next year.

I wish they would take this sort of action with more government bureaucracies....namely the EPA.

Is that what their union is telling us? There is a simple solution in solving that issue. Get rid of the current tax codes.

There are a few of them, including the director that should be in jail as we speak. Boo hoo.

They probably shouldn't have targeted groups based on their political leanings, asked people about the content of their prayers, then f*cked with Congress (i.e., the check writers), and destroyed emails relevant to a congressional investigation.

Oh, I agree. But when you're Congress, and they act that way - what choice do you have? IRS doesn't have to face the voters - you do.

"In some ways, these budget cuts are really a tax cut for tax cheats," Koskinen said. "Because to the extent we have fewer people to audit and enforce the tax code, that means some people cutting corners on their taxes or not complying are going to get away with it, and that is a decision that Congress has made."

Nice. Way to lay it all out there.
