'07 sea champion with '06 250 yamaha 4-stroke 380 hours. good friend looking to sell it to me. clean title on boat and trailer. new bearings this yr. NO soft spots either. also has all the "cool" electronics. ive fished out of it twice.
what do i REALLY need to focus on looking at before dropping $25K on this. hes moving to houston

I don't like any Champion bay boats and the Sea Champ is my least favorite.

where do you fish the most often and where would you like to fish with this new rig?

The Sea Champs are a cheap high sided boat. They do nothing good. Sacrifice shallow water capabilities for rough water handling. Don't do great in rough waters but better than most bay boats. They tried to fill a niche and IMO failed miserably.Does it have a trolling motor?

Here's your boat. Look no further. That 2 stroke vmax is a beast. Holeshot like you wouldn't believe. Top out near 60mph.cheaper and much better built.

I don't think he needs a skeeter for what he would be doing. That's almost a guide-style boat that's made for hauling arse all bizness.
You might want to consider a dry riding hull or something a little more comfortable cruising for the kids and such.
The lake can get crazy choppy and I've been wet in some high sided boats. Having a wet female on board is no fun and can cut a trip short, especially when they weren't planning on getting wet! Ha.
I've seen a couple good deals on CL and around town in general. g'luck

Some things to look for a on a used boat:
-stress cracks, look everywhere, in good light
-open every hatch and look in there with a flashlight, and better yet a mirror, look for cracks, mildew, problems
-look at the electrical, if there was a problem, how hard would it be to diagnose? rat's nest?
-I'd crack the bolt on the lower unit. Is the oil milky? if so, it has water in it, $ deduct
-compression check on motor
-note rust and deduct $
-rust on trailer?
-upholstery torn? if pink, that is mold that you will not get rid of and it will grow
That's a good start anyway.

i hope you're not being serious with that yellow skeeter @ the boat yard. You might want to check the hours on that old arse yammy. Good luck man, but 15k could get you into something a hell of a lot cleaner and newer and more practical. Just my $0.02

The boat in the meauxjeaux's second link is either my buddy's boat or identical to it. Did you ever get in touch with him?

For the money be was wanting to spend I linked up a better boat power pole, bad arse motor. The boat at the Boat yard was a second pick. That 08 Skeeter is a sweet arse boat.

That's the damn truth. I've got a 2002 VMax. Original owner. No problems whatsoever and that thing flies out the hole.
I just actually looked at those links and yeah a Skeeter is a good boat. Mine is an 03 zx22. I've put it through hell and fished it hard, but the only way I'd buy another Skeeter is if I got a 24. That extra two feet makes the boat skip over chop like nothing. It's a pretty wet riding boat, so if you are concerned with kids or something (like somebody else said), I would look elsewhere. That black one is badass though, and it's a really good deal.
eta: Skeeter makes a damn good fishing boat though. I love the layout of my boat and the newer ones are even better. It's taken a beating and it doesn't draft too much. I can get really skinny with it but it's got enough balls to run the lake when it's rough or MS sound.

How big is the sea champion? Three kids and the wife can make a Hatteras feel small
