Those candidates haven’t been confirmed, but they may include Jim Harbaugh, Les Miles, Sean Payton and Steve Addazio. Of those names, Addazio seems the most likely as he’d be graduating to a higher profile program whereas the other three could be viewed as downgrading if they left their positions to take up a job at Michigan.

Payton is more unlikely than Harbaugh. No rational Michigan fan thinks we have a shot with him, not sure where that name keeps coming from.

But please, no Addazio. Please.

Michigan is pretty pathetic in how this is going for them.

Michigan struggling to get a new coach and other teams hiring average coaches at best and you want Les to leave . You are an idiot ...

Did you know that Michigan didn't win a single bowl game in the 1970's...

They also couldn't play in a bowl game in 1971, 1973, 1974 and 1975 because the Big Ten had a stupid rule that only one school could go to a bowl game and that game was the Rose Bowl.

Thus the first non Rose Bowl in Michigan history was the 1976 Orange Bowl. That Orange Bowl was also the first time any Big Ten school played a bowl other than Rose Bowl.

What a weird conference.

Not a Michigan fan but that's pretty damn impressive.

It happened to coincide with Ohio State being pretty damn good as well. Since the Big Ten only sent one team to a bowl game from the beginning of time until January 1976, that meant Michigan had some very good teams that stayed home on New Year's Day while Ohio State played in Pasadena (1971, 1973, 1974, 1975).

Ohio State or Michigan played in every Rose Bowl between 1969 and 1981. That is unreal.

Another, "we can't win the championship every year" guy. Well, Alabama can or at least competes for it every year. LSU is not Michigan. LSU is set up to make a run every other year. Elmer Fudd at the helm will keep you happy w/ 8-4 and 9-3 as long as you are awed by playing a "big name" in some consolation bowl game. Enjoy mediocrity b/c that's all this clown is capable of.

Swinging and missing, then hiring a search firm. Seems to be the reverse of how it should be. Shows that they are struggling to attract interest.

Outsiders perspectives on this search is so off base it's funny. I can see the things that would lead you to these conclusions but there is no swinging and missing happening yet. UM is waiting for Harbaugh, pure and simple. If they do start swinging and missing, it will be after December 28th.

So let me guess you are maybe 21 years of age and started pulling for the tigers around the year 2000 . If Alabama can compete for that championship every year , pull for them . I for one am Happy to have Les as a coach . I have been through some dark years .Were you in the stadium in 1988 when Univ . of Miami beat us 44-3 ?

I agree. I was one of the few people in the stadium when it was raining and we beat Tulane in 1992 to go 2-9 on the year. Les may not be flashy, but you pretty well know what you get with him. On the other hand, if Saban had stayed....but that is the problem with that line of thinking....he didn't stay and here we are. But still this is way better than 1989-1995 and 1998-2000

How long can they drag this out? The best hire Michigan can make is no hire, the longer the search goes the longer the wait for all of us to enjoy their meltdown.

Do really think everyone up there has not seen what has gone on down here and do you think everyone wants him =

They have to justify their selection, the buy out fees and then the outlandish contract

I've been around since the '70s. I want my team's offense to quit acting like it's stuck in the '70s. I am not satisfied with a 4-4 SEC record and 8-4 overall. LSU has been to one major bowl game in the last seven seasons and got trounced in it, by a conference rival, no less. And it's going to be absurd when this clown plays LSU for a raise and an extension. That's the end game for Miles in this Michigan dalliance.

I'd rather win 3 and 4 games and strike out trying to find a great coach with the possibility of finding a superstar coach than to be paralyzed by 8-4 or 9-3 with an offense and a philosophy that's allergic to the forward pass. I'd rather watch a fundamentally sound, well-coached team than a team whose gameday coaching is a dumpster fire and whose coach can't properly evaluate or develop quarterbacks.

No one knew Les Miles and a 28-21 record at Okie State was not great. LSU can find somebody good. Good recruiting base, excellent facilites, plentiful resources. If you're happy with 8-4, good on you, but I'd prefer to learn you're in the minority of our fanbase.
