That's a hell of a deer. I bet the .243 has killed a lot more deer than its given credit for on the OB

a 243 is fine. Ive killed plenty with one. Would i take it over a 270 or similar... no, but it works fine. Shot placement!!! The only centerfire im against in deer hunting is 223. Have seen wayyyyy too many deer lost. Ive seen it work also, but more times than not its lost deer, no blood trail... just dont like them.

That is all I have ever hunted with. Shot around 20 deer with it and never had one go more than 50 yards. You have to know the limits though. Never shoot anything more than about 150 yards away with it.

my youngest shot his 1st one using a 243 while sitting on my knee about 30 years ago.
I was holding his little nintendo thingy for him with one hand and trying to brace his back with other hand. Tis amazin' it even happened, cause I was shaking more than him. I think i was shaking then, more than when I had killed bucks, back when I was a kid.

Nothing wrong with the .243 as my daughter has killed several with one, but looking at that pic the good Lord was shining down on that youngster because he hit him way back and high (spine shot). Awesome buck anyway you get him.

I never understood the hate for the .243, it's all I've ever used. It was my grandpa's gun handed down to me when he died as I was the only one without a deer rifle. I've been using it for damn near 20 years and never had one get away.

well, let's be honest,,,, it's a 243, who would want to steal it?

grandpa gave me a .243 from my first year hunting, have shot every deer with it including 3 this year, never had a problem

My .243 victims bounce when shot.

If you're hunting down here and the .243 isn't enough for you to kill deer, I think the problem may not be the round.

Had to put my dog on a deer a few weeks ago.
.243 right behind the shoulder at 30 yards. Not a drop of blood, deer went exactly 109 yards before it died.
.243 tracking jobs are more frequent than other calibers.
