Problem right there, at 30yds you should be shooting in the neck or head - any bullet at 30yds won't leave a drop a blood with that placement.

Any caliber is a frequent track with poor shot placement...

Yep. He also hunted Dickhole Island many a times and knew the Father of the young hunter well.

The doe I shot at 25 yds with .270 a few weeks ago disagrees. Ask lsuman about the blood eerywhere.

No, and no.

I'm sure the OB is full of competition marksmen, but head shots are terrible.
It's a much smaller target, and it moves more than the rest of the animal.
Just not a responsible shot in my opinion.

I don't know where you come up with no bullet would leave blood at 30 yards.
Thats just dumb.

I've never used a 243, but might try it one day when lil upgrade gets near hunting age.
Would probably use Partitions or something similar.

Good one....

what do you mean, "good one"?
I said, or at least meant to say, "when my youngest killed his 1st about 30 years ago, it was with a 243, while sitting on my knee".

yep, that's what I said..

Got Little Dong 1 the Savage Axis 243 for Christmas last year and so far it's put down three dear with no problem. Very little blood, but that's not really an issue with good shot placement - the farthest one we had to retrieve was only 50 yards. I prefer it over my Ruger 270 granted i'll be shooting not farther than 100 yds.

The first gun I hunted with was a 20ga single shot crack barrel. After a season with that my dad bought me a Remington youth model .243. I've killed more deer with that gun than anything else. Always shot 100gr BTSP.

From 10-17 I shot everything behind the shoulder. A lot of the deer found had no exit holes, and a minimal entry wound. The final straw was on a Saturday morning hunt I shot a good 8pt (110-115") and found ZERO blood. Everyone told me it was a clean miss, but I kept looking. Found the first blood 100 yards on a tree he brushed up against, shot was behind the shoulder middle of the chest deer ran 250+ yards.

I don't deny that caliber posses the energy needed to kill deer but I don't like that if a deer runs the blood trail isn't always reliable.

I started to do this with my youngest, instead i took my 444 and put a pound of lead in the stock. He shot it and it has minimal recoil.

I shot this deer with my .338 Lapua. Thankfully we had a dog. It went 245 yards!

.243 is a good round. I borrowed one for a while when I was getting the trigger on my 30-06 worked on. I never had a problem even with pigs. My wife uses a 25-06 exclusively. It is all about shot placement. Hit them in the heart (behind the shoulder), or neck/head shots.
