I got mine as a gift and use it a few times a year. If you purchase be sure and get a model that handles liquid well.

I've had mine (food saver) for some years. I love it and use it often. Still works like a charm though I'd like to update.

Ive got one, one of the better models. Use it all the time. Wish it would handle soups/gumbo tho.

I freeze ducks, sausages, peas, other meats, etc pretty often. It has made my freezer packing more effecient.

Bite the bullet and buy a small VacMaster. Foodsavers suck. I have one and hate it. Dad has a VacMaster and it's like night and day.

Mine handles soups pretty well, you just have to make sure that the area where the seal is formed is clean. I love it for buying meat in bulk, then freezing individually

Which one do you have. I'm looking to ask Santa for a food saver this year.

Been thru two food savers where the gasket dry rotted.

Wish I could find the bags for my old Seal-a-meal.

I liked it better

I have one. The bags are pretty expensive and make me wonder if it actually saves me any money in the long run.

But it is nice to be able to freeze food without worrying too much about freezer burn.

I had a cheap one for years and thought it was great until it finally died and I got a newer model. The newer model makes me wonder how I dealt with the cheap one for all of those years. They are great for when you have a lot of leftovers or for when they have really good sales on meat. We'll buy a ton of meat and take it out of their packaging and vac seal it and it stays good for what seems like forever.

i've had the $100 dollar food saver for several years. it works great, and we also uses it just to seal things like chips bags.

Bit of a highjack, but...I'm looking for ways to freeze meat that avoids freezer burn and generally maintains quality. Does a vacuum sealer accomplish that?

I have the one that they sell at Sam's- my wife got it for me a few years ago. I think it has changed design over the past couple of years, but it was not expensive. Buy at Bed, Bath and Beyond and save 20%.

I found a steak in my freezer from over a year ago that I had vaccuum sealed. I thawed it out, and the color was a little off, but I cooked it anyway. It may have lost a little flavor, but overall it was good considering the amount of time it had been in the freezer. Anything within a few months and it's still very fresh.

I have cooked many things that I've found vac sealed in the dark corners of the freezers which were past a year old and they've all been just fine. The vac sealer extends the life of your food, in my opinion, in addition to giving you more room.

Mines sucks up some liquid, but you can freeze soups and gumbos in containers, take them out and freeze in the bags later if you want. I freeze things that might squish or otherwise not do well thawed and then I freeze them in the vac seal bags.

I think I'm going to update mine. Did anyone get one for Christmas or anyone have recommendations for the best upgrade in Foodsavers?

I always see people posting about the one they sell at Cabelas. I would love to upgrade. I use mine on fresh fish all the time.

I use mine a lot more than I think I realized. It still works, but I've it a very long time and this past week, the heating strip wasn't sealing all the way in a few spots. Good enough reason to upgrade.

Just found this, but I haven't read it yet.

I have a Foodsaver that was about $120, it's about 5 y/o and still works like new. I also use it to reseal things we don't use a lot, like cellophane bags that noodles come in, cereal bags, crackers, chips.

I also have to attachment that is like a wine cork to take the air out of a half used bottle, not sure if that accomplishes anything.
