The weekend started of slowly. The girlfriend was ill and the weather outlook was not that great. But ain't nothing gonna break my stride. Nobody's gonna slow me down, oh no! I had to keep on moving.

After work on Friday, we went to a 6:10 show at Canal Place Cinema. The lady wasn't feeling to well, and she wanted to do something low key. We got there right before the movie (Birdman), and the waiter came to our seat to take our order. They generally have nice cocktails, so I looked at the list. When this advertisement came on, I also decided I wanted something to snack on.

I ordered a version of an old fashion made with peach bourbon, and we got the quattro formaggi flatbread.

The drink was way too sweet. The pizza was good, especially the slice with ricotta on it. Since the drink was sweet, I chugged it and ordered a regular old fashion. When it came out, I wasn't sure if the bartender knew how to make the classic cocktail. It tasted like rocket fuel, but I'm not one to complain about a drink being too strong. It had me feeling right.

After the movie, the lady decided she wanted to head home. I was still hungry so I picked up so sushi at Origami. I ordered a poke salad, salmon and escolar sushi. I'd put this place up against any sushi place in the city. I didn't come close to finishing the salad, but it's the tits. I was too lazy to make a dipping sauce for the sushi, so I just placed a little wasabi on the fish and drizzled it with soy. The escolar just melts in your mouth.

While I was eating, I was trying to keep up with the Newman game on the computer. They won, so I decided to have a celebratory cup of Beam and passed out.

On Saturday, I awoke at the buttcrack of dawn to do three loads of laundry. When I was putting my clothes in the dryer, I began craving a donut. I checked my phone at District was opening in 5 minutes! I ran upstairs to grab my keys and hit the door running. They had many options.

I went with the Peanut Butter cup and large chocolate milk.

It was just what I wanted! I sat outside and enjoyed the cool weather. The donut was extremely rich and made my body feel sexy. The milk was cool and refreshing.

After breakfast, I ran to Newman to see my bro and niece. They have a big game on Friday so he was doing film study. My niece will be sitting with me for the game, and I demand that she brings her "A" game and scream at the top of her lungs. Home field advantage is a priceless commodity these days. To get her ready, I made her runs suicides. I think she'll be ready.

After a grueling workout, I dropped the lady off at the hair salon and I went to Lafitte's. I was still in a celebratory mode, so I ordered a double Beam with a shot of Beam.

After pounding for two hours, I returned to pick her up and check into the hotel. It was her birthday and she wanted to do a staycation. Little did I realize my weekends are always staycations.

We went to lunch at Mr. B's. I have never had a bad meal or time at this restaurant. They are good at what they do. I ordered an old fashion and reviewed the menu. There were Ravens fans all over. If I lived in Baltimore, I'd be looking to get out for any excuse imaginable.

I ordered the crab cake and gumbo ya-ya. The gumbo is always consistent and is made with a dark roux, which I prefer. The lady ordered the coconut shrimp and eggplant. She still wasn't feeling great.

I was happy with all of the food we ordered. The crab cake was about 95% crab, and I will make sure to order it again. The remoulade that accompanied it was spectacular.

After lunch, we decided to walk around and grab a few drinks before returning to the hotel to relax. Who has time to relax?

I kept running into these fricking things.

What the frick was wrong with the older parking meters? These things have so many buttons, one would need above an Orleans Parish High School education in order to operate it. And only in Nola would a construction company place a meter directly in the middle of a sidewalk.

After a few libations, I returned to the hotel lobby for a few cocktails and meet a friend. The lobby at the Westin has one of the best views in the city.

I sent to little lady to Saks with my friend and credit card to buy a dress for dinner. While they were shopping, I went to the room to shower and watch Notre Dame lose.

We then headed to meet her family at Desi Vega's for dinner. We had reservations and were sat immediately. Our server was a yat from either Metry or the Parish. I couldn't put my finger on it. Either way, he was on and I would request him in the future.

While we were placing drink orders, complimentary meatballs were sent to the table.

My god were those little frickers delicious. There's no such things as too much garlic when it comes to meat.

I started my meal with turtle soup, and I decided to share the porterhouse (medium rare) with the lady.

The turtle soup was fine. It had some type of green in it, and it threw me off a little bit. I did still enjoy it, but I don't think turtle soup is one of those dishes that should be left open for different variations.

Before the meat arrived, they sent hot plates of sizzling butter to the table.

The meat was beautiful.

We also ordered cream spinach, lyonnaise potatoes, and several sides.

The steak was perfection. It was cooked perfectly and the taste was outstanding, even the grizzle.

For dessert, we got a ton of shite. I recall Peanut Butter icebox pie, bread pudding, creme brulee, and red velvet brownie a la mode.

I'm not a fan of bread pudding, so I didn't try it. My favorite was the ice box pie followed by the brownie.

After dinner, we went to SoBou and had a couple cocktails. I ordered a Heavy Metal Drummer,a ginger old fashioned with Johnny Drum Bourbon and a hint of smoke from Laiphroaig Islay Scotch. It was delicious. My only mistake was eating the ginger. I thought it was a candy. I was wrong. Huge mistake.

After shooting the shite with the bartender, she realized I was a cool dude. We received some complimentary shots.

After drinks, we walked around a little more and went to watch some live music on Bourbon. I'm glad I don't do that too often. The freaks truly do come out at night.

We then returned to the hotel, after my stomach decided it could not handle any more.

On Sunday, I awoke feeling like a champion at 6. I threw on the television and grabbed some coffee, which tasted like shite. It's no wonder that shite is free.

I then showered and walked to mass. It was raining a little, but it was washing the sins off of me.

After mass, we went to Sylvain for brunch. The lady was craving chicken biscuits, which are outstanding. I started my meal off with a rye drink with some type of fruit in it.

We ordered three chicken biscuits, and I also ordered this black-eyed pea cake. I love black-eyed peas.

The biscuits come with a side of honey butter and sage gravy. These things are insane. I was spreading butter all over them and dipping them in gravy. I would have been happy with just these.

The cakes were okay. Had the poached egg been a little more runny, I would have been happier. I also had to request some hot sauce to spice things up. The peas were interesting in cake form.

We then went to Lafitte's for a drink. I got a bourbon, and she got a purple. After the drink, I realized I was exhausted. We headed home to watch some football. I think I passed out.

Around dinner time, I didn't feel like dining anywhere. I decided to order pickup for High Hat. I got the pimento cheese burger and fries.

This is a great burger, which I have had on several occasions. This time I found it to be a little salty, so I decided to cut that with a little mayo.

While eating, I watched a Newman great make a spectacular catch.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving with family and friends. Remember that it's not embarrassing to go back for thirds.

Stay fat, my friends.

-Arse

Love those meatballs at Desi. Funny when I go for lunch sometimes and order a meatball poboy, they still bring the appetizer meatball. That steak has me drooling.

Had lunch there on Thursday and it was better than my previous outings. Got the gumbo ya-ya and blackened redfish and both were great.

I wasn't planning on doing it, but I guess I have some time on Friday. I have two places to go to, and I'll likely stop in at Lafitte's.

I know what you saying about these damn parking meters. How long before they remove the old ones on Magazine. I can only imagine how confusion this is for people not familiar with the area.

Question: How did they cook that porterhouse? One side is medium, the other looks rare?

I ordered it medium rare, since I was sharing it. I thought it was cooked perfectly. I don't recall it being overcooked. I think that's the end of the steak. I may have put a piece in the hot butter accidentally too.

I was at SouBou on Saturday night as well. Cocktails were legit, especially Hemingway's daiquiri. Which I followed up with an Eggnog daiquiri at Lafitte's. A study in daiquiris if you will.
