Jambo must be recuperating from that long trip over a short period of time. I hope he took some pics.

No pics of any gumbo, either. Boo.

Just looked at the Gumbo Wars Facebook page and it looks like some guy named BooDreaux who hosts Fishing Florida Radio won it. He's wearing a LSU cap so he can't be all that bad.
I am almost positive he is a poster on the outdoor board, not sure about the food board

I think he first posted about the event here.

Hey guys and gals. Thanks so much for the support and well wishes. The trip was great, but bc of the weather that day and driving home in that slop, was very long too.
We ran out of gumbo (people came back multiple times for ours) and had a blast. Met up with chef Byron who made king cakes, and boudin balls as well.
The girls were hot, drinks were cold, and the people were friendly.
Booodreax won, so congrats!
Outside of Louisiana, people have a very strange idea of what gumbo should be, and I'll leave it at that.
I'm very happy to be back, and really want to get a day for the food board here to cook and hang out together.
We shall see. I'm still tired..lol

I think that's why "Cajun" restaurants in other states should not be visited, in general.

Amen brother Jambo!! Let me tell all of you, Jambo's gumbo was as good as any of the one's that had Louisiana roots & what a great guy to come all the way here to Orlando. When I tasted his, I was concerned about my recipe LOL, his had a very smooth & creamy texture & great flavor, great mouth feel. Mine was very dark roux seafood gumbo, much thinner.
There were 7 teams out of the 28 who were either from Louisiana or spent significant time there & each of them were very good......How a team of native Michigander's managed to take 3rd with a damn soup is crazy, the result of a people's choice voting & the aforementioned "strange idea" people have about gumbo. Two of the 3 teams placing had strong Louisiana ties/roots FWIW. Next year there will be judges from Louisiana or those with Louisiana/food roots, these will be coordinated by Chef Byron Boquet of Houma originally, the three time winner, who has retired from competing.
Thanks so much Jambo for participating & to all the suggestions I received for Andouille/Tasso here!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all & I'm in on a get together. Looking for pics since I didn't take any myself, I was busy stirring!

I agree Gris Gris.....I cringe everytime someone wants to take me to the "real Cajun" restaurant in their town outside of Louisiana. If I don't cook my own Cajun/Creole food here in Florida they I'm not going out for it.
