This is a somewhat difficult review to write, because what the Foundation Room does right, it does very right. What it does wrong, it does very wrong.

The Foundation Room is the members only, exclusive area above the House of Blues. Although I don't have a membership, I'm occasionally invited up with friends. I was recently extended an invitation while attending an Irvin Mayfield jazz show (which was fantastic).

Prior to going up to the Foundation Room, we ordered a couple of drinks at the bar downstairs. While $20 for a house cabernet and a tall beer seemed pretty high, it's to be expected at a concert venue.

Once upstairs in the Foundation Room, I again ordered house cab. I could see that the house cab was BV. Since I was familiar with the wine, and the price point, I didn't ask a cost on it. I've worked in the service industry, and I also know that typical mark up of wine in a restaurant is about 300%. During the course of the show, I had 3 glasses of HOUSE WINE. I was floored when I received my bill to find that the wine was $18 a glass! This is wine that retails in the local grocery store for $8.50 a bottle! I could even deal with a 400% mark up considering the venue, but an almost 900% mark up on a $9 a bottle wine, is just beyond ridiculous.

So the price point of beverages is where the Foundation Room fails miserably.

What the Foundation Room does get right is it's service and décor. Service was fast and very friendly. The décor is really pretty with deep, warm reds and golds.

I would go to the Foundation Room again because I love the décor and comfort of it, and being able to walk straight to the balcony in the show room, and have a special viewing area. But with those prices, I'd likely walk down to the regular bar downstairs to order drinks.

BV??

Where I work, house wine costs us $4.50 a bottle and we sell it for $10 a glass...

I will say if I was paying $18 a glass it should be something good. Those prices do suck but it is what it is...

I normally hit up chart room and pregame before a HOB event

I would agree with that

$18.50 for a glass of BV cab is a crime.

They also have nice pillows that you can hump.

I don't normally hump pillows in public, but if I did, those pillows would be good choices.

Yup. I'll bring a flask for Foo Fighters Friday night.

Last time I checked, it's still legal in this country.

I get your point, but it's kinda what they do right? If you want to be clear of the commoners, there's a premium attached. Bottle service in Vegas, champagne rooms in strip clubs, all pretty much the same.

Right, $18 is a little higher than I would expect but not by much. I would have expected closer to $12-15.

its definitely pretty pricy - but im guessing being a national chain and members only room they probably keep the prices semi consistent across markets

i was curious to hear some food feedback on the FR too though - anyone?

I'm cool with the premium attached. I'm even ok with an $18 glass of wine IF it's justifiably an $18 glass of wine. I'm not cheap, but again I think a 900% mark up is ridiculous. I expected $12.

Also, I think what they're charging for membership should keep the commoners out.

It's been years since I had dinner up there. I remember it being good, not great.

You can't enter the Foundation Room from the main hall for Foo Fighters.

Also, members get a discount on booze and a lot of money loaded onto their loyalty card over the year. Along with, I imagine, not being charged for a lot of drinks because my tab has never made me recoil in horror. Their beer and booze selection should be MUCH better than it is though.

I'm a member of the foundation room. And I find that the beer and mixed drink prices are very reasonable. The wine prices are a bit high when buying glass to glass but by the bottle they are pretty much on part from my experiences.

It's nothing to go out of your way for, but it's not bad.

If you are going to buy 3 glasses of the same wine, at any liquor outlet, you might as well buy a bottle.

That's a life lesson.

I've only been there a few times as a guest, but I always found the drinks overpriced and the decor tacky as hell. Like drinking inside a genie bottle.
