- This team cannot play man defense, we will give up 40 to 50 points in the paint against any team we play

- On the flip side we work decently well in zone...G-W got hot from 3 to close out the 2nd half but up until that point they couldnt get any easy points

- Martin and Mickey are going to be a force on offense, practically unstoppable today

- Big E has absolutely no offensive game at the moment but is a big body on D

- Hornsby and Gray are absolutely an upgrade from Hickey and Stringer in the backcourt...Gray can drop 20+ on anyone he wishes, but he played with the flow of the game and got others involved

- Patterson is better than I thought he would be this early on...dude had 5 points and 5 boards, 3 offensive

- Tough to judge Quarterman, he didnt play as much as I thought he would (or involved as much as I thought he would be), but at times he looked like he did last year with a bad 3 point shot and others looked improved

- Epps is almost every bit as athletic as Mickey, just doesnt have the offensive game yet

- Brian Bridgewater is...massive

- Malone and Odo wont be playing really unless the bigs get into foul trouble or we are up by 20+

Thanks for the post.

Looking forward to the season even though we may struggle at times. I'm excited to see how this team will fare throughout their schedule!

D was discouraging but it's the first game and hoping GW is better than advertised. An upgrade in competition Tuesday. Hoping Hornsby can get into the flow of the game.

So, by watching one game you came to that conclusion? It's the FIRST frickin game. Let them develop. How many times did Big E shoot?

Led by Jordan and Jarrell, this team has the talent to make the tourney.

The Hornsby-Gray backcourt could be very good.

The tourney-Sweet 16 talk is a bit premature. The 2014-15 Tigers have some things to work on, not the least of which is a total indifference to playing consistent defense.

They are a work in progress, but the guard play makes me cautiously optimistic.

I wish we would try to press since we have decent depth and we play well up tempo.

The d in the paint is very discouraging but it is game 1.

The offense looked great in all phases.

It's the same guys defending the paint as it was last season when JOB went out with foul trouble, Martin and Mickey cant play defense in the paint outside of blocking shots, they showed that much once again today. Getting 3 blocks is great, giving up 15 easy layups is not.

I liked the movement on offense for the most part. Nothing bad that can't be explained by a lack of time together. Some turnovers that can be expected early on with a young team. Better at this point than last year by a lot.

The defense lacked intensity. The guards need to reach in down low more.

You can see Epps' talent.

If we are as good a free throw shooting team as the first game shows, then it could be a very good year.

It was absolute chaos. Not controlled chaos like Johnny wants.

The D is a work in progress, but what was disappointing to see was the lack of discipline at the end of the game. Gray running into the corner on a press break where GWU was trapping, not pulling the ball out after we beat the press, Patterson chunking up a 3 with 25+ left on the shot clock, poor choice of lineup in until about 45 seconds left. All sorts of terrible late game decision making by players and Johnny.

It's early but that is one thing that will cost you games like this you can't afford to lose.

I'm just hoping that the refs will not be as foul happy as they were last year.

Yeah considering the 5 guys in at the end of the game had a combined 3 fouls. We can be way more aggressive on the defensive end.

I agree . Last two minutes of the game was a clinic on what not to do when up by ten and trying to close someone out for a victory.

It still irritates me that I've never seen an LSU basketball team in the last ten years make an attempt to run a play off an inbounds under there own goal. They always just throw it to halfcourt.
To me, that's a sign of lack of coaching.

We aren't gonna play post players like Nelson and Hill again. Those guys are old school with their use of up fakes and twists. Our interior D will be better.

Right about now there are around 300 Div. I coaches thinking the same thing about their teams. This young Tiger team must learn that there is more to Defense than swatting shots. I believe they'll get there by January, which is when you want them to gel anyway.

LSU has the individual pieces to be a very good team

The coaching still leaves an awful lot to be desired.

LSU picked up right where they left off last season in being completely unable to defend screens or the pick and roll

WTF were they doing at the end of game? Double digit lead and zero desire to run clock. They unnecessarly let GWU back in the game late

FT shooting much improved.

For a team who's strength is in the front court, they take way too many 3's

LEt me add in the fact we were 13 of 14 from the FT line

This was a team horrible from the FT line in Jones' first 2 seasons.

You could argue the made FTs were the reason this one DIDN'T go down to the wire.
