t still irritates me that I've never seen an LSU basketball team in the last ten years make an attempt to run a play off an inbounds under there own goal. They always just throw it to halfcourt.
To me, that's a sign of lack of coaching.

I saw a pretty nice play with Martin inbounds the ball and rolling out for a wide open 3 on the pass back

That looked like two players making a basketball move on their own. I knew someone would mention that play.

Gotcha. So a good play off an inbounds couldn't possibly have been coached, all improv.

It didn't kill us today, but in big games Mickey can't end up with 0 blocks and 0 fouls. He's usually very aggressive on D, so he gets a pass for today I guess.

Our shooting numbers (fg, 3pt, ft) all look fantastic. It's amazing how much more efficient you can be with physical guards trying to get in the lane to jump start the O. I thought Hornsby and Gray looked great.

ht about now there are around 300 Div. I coaches thinking the same thing about their teams. This young Tiger team must learn that there is more to Defense than swatting shots. I believe they'll get there by January, which is when you want them to gel anyway.

I'd be less concerned if they didn't have the EXACT same issues all of last season. It is as if the coaching staff didn't address the problem is at all

Better at this point than last year by a lot.

Disagree 100%. Last year after the exhibition and even umass loss, I thought we were a 12-6/13-5 sec team.

It feels and looks like 9-9 again after today. 11-7 best case.

Assuming they get a few breaks go their way, they should be a solid NIT team.

Elbert looks like Tuba from his freshman year. We all know tuba got light years better as he got experience and coaching. It's crazy to think elbert was a top 60 player in the country though. I hope he turns out as good as tuba...which is crazy to say.

Yep.
Absolutely love that we finally have a pg that can drive to the hoop and score! Gray is going to be awesome. Hornsby came on strong in the 2nd half. Patterson is a very good player, but needs to learn how to keep a lead and not shoot 3s when you should be running the clock. Epps looked great. Can't wait to see more minutes for him.

-this team is horrible on defense and at the fundamentals. Johnny didn't seem to care that they gave up open shot after open shot.

-they have low basketball IQ and knowledge of the game as evidenced by them jacking up shots repeatedly WITH A LEAD early in the shot clock with about 2-3 minutes left in the game.

-they simply outtalented GW

-Mickey got dominated repeatedly on the block by 34.

-Having been to both games, we will struggle in SEC play if some serious changes aren't made on defense.

It's not all bad, as the offense is good, but this defense is embarrassingly bad. The effort was not there.

One play sticks out in my head near the end of the game. Martin and Mickey I believe were retreating on a fast break and about the free throw line. The 5'7" PG Strange literally drove from end to end with not a single person even attempting to stop him.

One game or not the lack of leadership and basketball decision making at the end of the game needs a quick fix. That includes coaches and players.

I thought a lot of things were improved sans defense but nothing that was too severe to correct.

This whole team needs to forget about blocking shots. Just stay on the floor and contest the shot. We get pump faked way too often and end up giving up easy lay ups. Stop trying to block everything and play fundamental defense. If I was Johnny, I'd make the players run every time they got faked off their feet. Stay on the floor! You're long enough to alter shots without jumping.
