Sausage Picks

Live in Dallas but go home frequently and stock up on sausage. I usually hit Jacobs (LaPlace) and D&J and Lamendolas in Gonzales. I like local made (ie not factory made) and have found good results with locally owned gas station type spots. Any recommendations so I can further explore? Smoked and Andouille is my focus and the smokies the better. TIA

Wayne Jacobs Smokehouse in LaPlace.

I think the Laplace area places have the smokiest products.
Jacobs
Bailey's
Wayne Jacobs Smokehouse
Don's Country Store (Reserve)
In that area, but less smokey are
Cox Meat Market
Veron's Supermarket (Lutcher)
All of them (except maybe Cox) have tasso, boudin and hogshead cheese as well as sausage and andouille.
As for factory made, I like Double D, made in Bogalusa and available in NOLA area groceries.

As much as I like that areas sausage, you have to give the 'smokest' sausage to the Ville Platte area.
I aint' got time right now, but one day I'm going to put my list of all the specialty meats and sausage places on here for yall.

It doesn't get much better than D&J. Thanhfully they're about a mile from my house.
Porche's in French Settlement has good andouille.

quote:Yeah, one is a mass-produced (but good) comercial type and the other is a house-made specialty product from a small meat market/grocery store.

Had some Rouse's andouille this morning for breakfast. Wasn't too bad.

good call!
and theres an old man down the road (towards chackbay) that has homemade smoked sausage from his personal smokehouse.
I forgot his name, but he reminds me of the old man in Springfield who has has a smokehouse (& slaughterhouse)
Good stuff!

Benoit's in Addis. Their Hot Pork is intoxicating even BEFORE you cook it.

All above are good, but
I'll add one that never gets any press
If your looking for a heavy smoked sausage for beans or Gumbo.
Meche's meat market in Opelousas.
BTW Meche's is a CC type place..
And that means Concealed carry, not Credit card
Rather shady area as of late.
