Just got back to Birmingham after a week off in Nola and BR (tough weekend given the LSU and saints games). I heard PVW was being released tomorrow in Alabama, so went to ABC beverage here to see what the deal was - only 2 stores in whole city selling, and at the one I went to, there were 4 people sitting outside in line at 6pm - in sub-40 degree weather, and the store won't open till 10AM.

Is this normal or just the cult-like following/ability to flip it for a profit? And is it worth it? I enjoy bourbon just like the rest and just picked up a few bottles of bourbons I can't get in bama while in Nola.

There's an ABC store in Alabama with my name on a bottle. Happy Christmas to me!

Usually around $75 for 15, $150 for 20 and $225 for 23 yr...doubt that's what anyone sells it for now...

Confirmed one place in LA sold their 23/yr for $2,000...crazy...

Also a nice piece of reading material:

Not a bourbon drinker at all but it's interesting to see this thread. Never heard of PVW until it was mentioned on a recent episode of NCIS Los Angles.

You shouldn't be allowed to buy Pappy if you think you are supposed to shoot it anyway.

Certainly not.

Hopefully the dweebs camping out are going to savor that drink, because I sure as hell wouldn't camp out to flip a $250 bottle for $1,000. But that's just me.

Is anything? After taking my first sip of Pappy 23 I couldn't stop smiling for half an hour. Still wouldn't camp out for it.

The owner of Iron Horse in Hoover got a bottle for his Bday. From out of state, I believe.

It was very smooth, but I'm not paying that kind of $$ when I can get a smooth bourbon for $60.

I can't remember how much he paid, but I want to say it was over $400.

I do applaud PVW for their marketing strategy. Insure high demand and low supply.

They put the juice in the barrels 15-20 years ago. Long before the bourbon craze of the past five or so years. Nobody expected the type of demand we are dealing with now. If Van Winkle had a time machine believe me they would have gone back and made more. It's not a strategy but demand outstripping a finite supply..

Just drove by there at 945... 50 people in line... For their sake I hope they got some if they waited all night.
