re: St. Lucia suggestions - quadfest
We stayed at sugar beach, just down from ladera. I second Dasheen, and boucan. Do a boat trip to Jade Mountain late afternoon and get complimentary drinks on the terrace overlooking the Pitons then stay for dinner for sunset. We had amazing views for the drinks and for first few courses. We did t...

re: Camera Recommendations - quadfest
My wife and I are going to South Africa for a safari and want to get a solid camera. Friend of mine recommended mirrorless, naming the Sony a6500. Any thoughts or recs? Background - minimal camera skills at best, want to take great pics given the upcoming trip, and willing to pay for quality. Als...

re: Traveling to South Africa-need flight assistance - quadfest
When you say to Singapore? How do you find which flight to take for a Star Member. Looking to leave JNB may 20. Yeah, in retrospect shoulda looked at Korean but didn't really understand how it worked. I have about 105K UR and 50K MR left for return. And 30K Marriott ...

re: What to do with end of year bonus - quadfest
Excellent point - never thought about it that way. Maybe I do need to give serious consideration to paying off the debt (outside the mortgage for now) and hold off on large investments for now (will cont to make routine deposits) ...

re: What to do with end of year bonus - quadfest
My interest rates for these are 2.9 and 3.75. Is there an argument to be made for these being "good debts" with low interest rates, and instead of paying them off, just invest the money in vanguard, esp if avg 8-10% returns. I have been putting an extra $50 towards the car each month an extra 300...

What to do with end of year bonus - quadfest
Trying to decide whether to simply invest a certain amt each month to DCA, or pay off low interest loans (i.e. Car loan and work "investment" loan), or to put large amt towards mortgage. None of the rates are higher than 4.1%. TIA...

re: Mortgage re-finance question - quadfest
Yeah, my wife and I don't know how long we'll be in this house, but probably at least 5 years. Running some basic numbers, I don't think it's worth the work or $$ to re-finance. Leaning towards making a conscious effort towards investing the $1500 I would have put towards the adjusted mortgag...

re: Mortgage re-finance question - quadfest
Good points made by all. Another question. I am leaning towards sticking with the rate I have but putting the additional amount towards principal that I would have to owe if did re-finance to 15year. Is there any argument to be made to take that extra money (roughly $1500/month) and invest it in my ...

Mortgage re-finance question - quadfest
I have a 30 yr fixed at 4.125. Starting to realize that I can afford to pay more on my monthly payment. Is it worth changing to a 15 yr fixed, roughly at 3.78? Or just keep the same mortgage and make payments towards principal at the "15 yr rate"? For background - physician, 3 years out of train...

re: Best digital book reader tablets for under $100 - quadfest
Agree w Kindle paper white. Wife had the original --- nice, but this is even lighter and can read in dark and in the sun, so don't have to worry about glare. Bought one for my dad for Christmas - he loves it as an avid reader. I bought mine on prime day for $89....

ETFs vs Index Mutual Funds - quadfest
Question - I've been reading Bogleheads, trying to get an understanding about investing. One part I don't quite understand is that it sounds like ETFs are basically cheaper, more flexible funds. And the book clearly recommends ETFs - yet they cont to point out that index funds are the way to go, eve...
