A few new fish lures I'm working on

Somebody asked for some pictures earlier in another thread of the lures I make. So here's a few. I hand carve these from little blocks of cedar, sand the devil out of them, then I paint by hand, never did like an airbrush, finally they are sealed with a 2 part 24 hour cure epoxy. The first 3 pictures are of the lures on my drying rack, the epoxy does take about 24 hours to set, so I have a rotisserie motor that slowly turns the lures. Pic 4 is some finished ones on display ready to sale or fish. Enjoy.

Thats awesome. I made my own bait on a lathe in industrial tech class in hs. One of my most prized possesions

Thanks guys, it really is a lot of fun to make these. I find it very soothing. Then there's always that one lure that is magical.
Those are stick on eyes, I put the eyes on and then epoxy over them, it would take an act of congress to pull those eyes off and they look really good under the epoxy.

I have a guy here that builds cedar homes, he trades me ends and strips that have been ripped off his lumber for lures. I cut them in 3-5 inch long blocks about 1x1 inch square. So, then I just get my carving knife and go to work.
There are places you can order bodies, I order all my hooks, split rings, eyes, etc from Janns Netcraft, they do sell bodies too, but they are made of basswood.

Fly fishing is in your future. Get a 6 weight, learn to cast, learn to tie.

I'll do a tutorial this week with lots of pics. They are pretty easy to make, it just takes time.
No pic of my wood, Paige and Spicy Stacy wouldn't leave me alone if I did. However, I'll show you how I prep my cedar for use in the lures.
