Yeah yeah, they're nice and pretty, but do they catch fish?

Looking forward to this. I've been wanting to make some of my own. My grandfather used to make his own and I would like to pick this up.

No pic of my wood, Paige and Spicy Stacy wouldn't leave me alone if I did. However, I'll show you how I prep my cedar for use in the lures.

man, that is a very cool hobby!...I am jealous...

question...how do you anchor the hooks in firmly enough to keep them from pulling out when a good fish hits?....

The is the key to these lures. I've tried pulling out the screws myself and can't do it without a rediculous amount of force, they are only 1/4 inch long. But that cedar is so dense that it holds them. It also floats very good, and throws a damn mile. It also carves easily and sands smoother than a freshly waxed Coochie. The action is much better than plastic, the wood always hunts it's center, hard to explain but it's better than plastic. Whereas every plastic lure will perform about the same, all wood lures will perform as good as plastic, but every once and a while a wooden lure will be magical. I've swam across some pretty unsafe waters to retrieve a really good one that got hung.

this is very cool....

I used to have an old wooden mudbug lure with a brass blade on it to make it dive...have you ever thought about making a diving bait by doing something like that?...

Diving baits are harder, they require a lot more tuning to get the action just right. I made some once that ran to the left on the retrieve, I never could get them to run straight.
