I am about to move out of my townhouse and I am getting rid of as much as I can. I just put some stuff by the street (a chair, DVD/VHS player, computer printer) and was gonna put it in the dumpster if nobody came and got it. Lo and behold, 30 seconds after I put it by the street, a young man and his "momma" were picking it up. I was carrying the behemoth of a printer and said "Do you want this too?" He said "Momma, you want a printer?" All I could think, does this woman make her grown son drive her around all day looking for stuff? I don't live on a through street.
I remember when I was young, I lived in a house in NBR that was built in the 30's/40's and had this lavendar tub. When we remodeled we took the tub out. The thing mustsa weighed 1,000 pounds and it was gone by nightfall.

That's the only bad thing about living in the sticks... nobody to pick up my trash.

I've got an old broken down washing machine I need to get rid of... can I put it in front of your house?

Terd, it would be gone in about 10 seconds. 20, cause they might have to go get a truck.

When I lived on Perkins Rd. we'd make bets on how long something would last on the curb.

People picked up some pretty gross stuff.

When I lived in Houston, I would just put one thing by the curb, then I would wait by it for like 5 minutes. When a Mexican stopped to pick it up, I would say hey, come look at this other stuff in my garage. That way they would haul the stuff for me.

In college, around 2008, Scruffy put an old tv on the street and it was gone in under 30 mins.

And by old tv, he means one of those with the fake wood paneling around the screen.

They'll take anything.

I'm pretty sure I indirectly killed a family with moldy furniture after Katrina.

Or just a hoarder. I think most places have that guy. And there is no use to be made of 90% of the shite he picks up.

One man's trash... and all that.

Oh come on now, one day he will have a use for that completely rusted and unidentifiable thing that may be a farm implement or gothic sex toy!

I put an old mattress by the curb once. It even got rained on for hours, but someone still ended up taking it during the night. I feel like I'd have to draw the line at used mattresses regardless of poverty level.

That is a great thing about Houston. No shortage of Mexicans to take stuff like that off your hands.

the only thing that upsets me is some will rumage through the pile and leave a mess. I almost waited one night just to let them know to at least clean up but then got scared of what might drive up

Last Friday I was STANDING by the curb waiting for my friend to pick me up to go fishing.

I had 3 fold up chairs laying on the ground near me, and my little duffel bag of clothes.

Someone stops and tries to pick up my brand new chairs, in their bags, with me STANDING right next to them. AND he happen to do this driving a BR Water truck. Damn.

When I moved back down to LA, I put an old mattress on the curb with a box spring and it rained that night... it was gone by lunchtime.

Didn't help that I was in Capitol Hill (close to one of the more dangerous neighborhoods)

You can find good shite on the side of the road. My buddy picked up a little stainless steel cart the other day. Looked like it had come out if a commercial kitchen.

This will be the next spin-off reality show.
Heck, I LOVE American Pickers, this will be next. It may end up on TruTV or Spike, but they'll make it.

We have a picker or two we see every Monday and Thursday night in my neighborhood.
