obviously not what me meant. I hate the transitive property but I may make an exception here.

OSU doesn't belong anywhere in the discussion. I'm sure they'll lose again though.

The reason they are in the discussion is not because of who they have beaten so far. It is because they have a game against Michigan State. The winner of that will probably have 1 loss and a very quality win. They will also have a conference championship game and will be big favorites in all of their remaining games.

Nobody is claiming Ohio State belongs in a hypothetical discussion of a playoff starting today. People need to realize that the discussion of "who has a good chance to be in top 4 on December 20th?" is not the same as "who deserves to play in it based on their work so far?"

Mississippi State, for example, obviously deserves it more right now. However, they have a more difficult schedule and a weaker team to get through it. People can argue that all they want, but the fact of the matter is only a few teams would be favored over Ohio State on a neutral field. I'll trust Vegas over blowhards who act like all teams outside of the SEC recruit Junior Varsity players.

They are in the discussion because of the relatively high percentage chance they have of finishing 12-1 as Big 10 champions and a victory over a top 10-15 Michigan State team. Not because they are 5-1 right now. The season is half-way over, with most of the cup cake games out of the way. What kind of capabilities a team has for winning is as much or more important than what a team has already stamped on their resume.

They probably will lose again. But they are one of the few teams that probably control their own destiny and have at least a 20% chance or so chance of winning out. If that doesn't get someone in the discussion, then the discussion is not broad enough for my liking.

Worked from home this week and they apparently have the best chance of any 1 loss team of going undefeated the rest of the way. Not sure how those formulas work but it was like 26%

I keep saying it and i'll say it again, IF Ohio State wiins at Michigan St, they will have to follow that game up by winning AT nationally ranked (8-1) Minnesota

Yeah, except Minnesota likely won't have only 1 loss by that time. They are not very good.

Then they play at home against Iowa, thats a win.

Yeah, no. Iowa will be favored. Its Minnesota. They might not win another game all year. This week against Illinois will be the only one they are favored in.

Losing to SC should disqualify you from the playoff. Looking at you too UGA.

I agree. Sure, conference champ is important. But if two teams in the same conference are clearly among the four best, they should both be in the playoff. I want the four best teams in there. Not the four best conf champs.

The point is to figure out who the best team is and if you aren't even the best team in your conference then you aren't the best team. Wining your conference should be the first round of elimination.

It should(and will eventually) be conference champs only.

So basically, u only have to beat Maryland, Rutgers, Cincinnati, and navy,......and lose to VT to be in the playoff talks. I bet 40 schools could have managed that. Such a brutal schedule. What has osu proved by beating scrubs? Nothing. You have sec, pac, and big 12 teams going out and putting their seasons on the line against ranked opponents.

No is saying Ohio State deserves to be in the playoffs as of now for frick's sake. Let the rest of the season play out before throwing a piss fest. If they win out, they could have anywhere from 2 to 4 wins against ranked opponents.

Way Claude.

If Ohio State goes 12-1 Mississippi or Mississippi State will have to go undefeated to get in ahead of them. One loss and they are out of the conversation. Like it or don't like it but it's a fact.

A late loss is always much more of a problem than an early season loss. That has been a fact as long as I've been watching college football.

OSUs loss is hot garbage and they'll only end up with 1 quality win if they run the table. Under no circumstance should they be allowed in over any other 1 loss team. Even some 2 loss teams would have more merit. Basically any SEC Big 12 or Pac 12 2 loss team who has at least 2 quality wins and both losses are respectable.

In all fairness, this Ohio State team is not the same team it was when they lost to VT. Much more improved. OSU is/was a lot like LSU right now. Very talented, but very young. Now that we're seeing them gel and develop they're better. J.T. Barrett started out shaky (as did Brandon Harris in his first road start) but has come along and is playing like he could be a future Heisman candidate at some point in his career (which is why I think Les Miles is handling the Harris situation sooooo shitty, but that's another argument for another day). If OSU and VT played this Saturday, I'm certain OSU would stomp them by 3+ scores.

I'm nowhere near an Ohio State fan, and I've usually rooted against them and always agreed they've gotten the benefit of the doubt most years in the media during the Tressel era. But something just feels different in the Urban era.

I do agree that a Big Ten team shouldn't really be in the playoff discussion at this point.

Really ever this year, regardless of what happens.
