used to beat my head against the wall over that all the time, combo of things, she was young (23,) the youngest of three, only girl, spoiled brat, so I thought there was just some growing up to do, plus, I had always been around decent people, could not believe a person could be so fricked up and evil, turns out she is bi-polar/borderline personality disorder, alcoholic, a carbon copy of her mother except intensified

I would seed a male heir with another woman then tell her it's her fault...
Not really, but I would talk to her about how to make the process better for her.

Your greatest obligation is to your child. Make a good home for her with your wife. When she is out of the house you can start over.

Why is the divorce question bringing out the anger? What if one of the things he loved about his wife is that she wanted several kids and would be a great mom
Because here in reality things change.
People change.
One would hope they grow more mature.
OP is incapable of adjusting to the fact that maybe after 1 kid his wife decided that it wasn't for her.
Hell, my wife (2.0) wanted kids when we got married and after our first one was born decided that was it for her.
I loved her, not the ability of her vagina to spit out more kids to bear my name.
OP is hella immature.

Say I really loved a woman, but she said not wanting kids was a deal breaker. I tell her that I'd have kids with her and then tell her I changed my mind after we were married. If she divorces me, who is the a-hole?

or how about the reverse, I got married with the agreement that there would be no kids, the ex badgered the shite out of me after a couple of years, I relented, after a couple of more years, "he'll be lonely without a sibling," she gets knocked up, come to find out some of her cronies had told her that 10 years of marriage & 2 kids was the magic # for getting life time support, and she even told my sister that was the plan
You got got.

The discussed plan was to have a son, and several children (2-4). First child is a daughter and your wife didn't really enjoy the whole pregnancy & labor process. Now she says she wants to stop at 1 and be done.
Been dealing with this for 8 years. Difference I guess is that I have a son. He's an only child though, and I was hoping for siblings/larger family. Tough issue, but at the end of the day I love my wife, and have chosen to prioritize her happiness over my desires. Not easy, but no one ever said life was easy...

How about be thankful for what she gave you? You are an a-hole.

I guess it could, but in this case, I'm happy with the decision - my life is pretty damn good. In many other areas, she's chosen to prioritize my happiness over her desires, so at some point maybe it evens out.....

i mean to be fair, part of their agreement was multiple kids. you act like it's fair that only one person gets to change that unilaterally
and that person should be thanked for living up to her side of the agreement

The primary purpose of any species is to reproduce and to keep the species going. Stopping at one is a shame.

Wait awhile to bring up the subject
If she still doesn't want to adopt

that's good, I'm not trying to be condescending, just amazes me that the default setting in most relationships seems to be appeasing the woman, innate desire to put the pussy on the pedestal maybe? who knows

Ah, I dealt with this once before as well, just didn't get to that level, but I can understand it.

Didn't take it that way and understood your point.
That said, for two people to spend the bulk of their lives together, at some point I think they have to learn to communicate (so that at least they understand why the other is so damn pissed) and compromise......

I don't think we're in any danger of going extinct right at the moment.
