So, can we now say that "Obama beat Putin"?
Do you think Putin is beaten?
Their economy is in shambles. Some (prob MSNBC) would say the Obama has be "Reaganesque" with regards to Russia.

Too bad they don't have a wall that Obama can tell Putin to tear down.

He's going to be dormant a bit. Obama has made the same basic mistake that Bush made with Iraq. He announced when he's leaving.

We'll see how things go after 2016.

What happened to Putin out witting Obama
Does Putin still have Crimea? Does Putin still have de facto control over eastern Ukraine? Is Putin more or less popular in Russia than before he annexed Crimea?

I got called pretty much a dumbass a while back for saying sink the commodities that the Ruskies (no offense LSUR) make their $ on and the situation would remedy itself.

You were laughed at for suggesting we could sink commodity prices.

He might hold these territories but at what cost?

It would be a checkmate if Russia defaulted on its sovereign debt. Obama should take credit for it since he takes the blame on everything else that happens with Russia.

If the given economic crisis comes about as predicted, yes. Clearly it leaves Russia more vulnerable to succeeding breakups and loss of control over some of these other countries.

I think it was wondered on some comedy shows why Putin wanted to take control of some of these countries with horrible economies in the first place.

Russia and China are playing us like a fiddle.

Watch Jim Rickards: Coming Economic Depression.

The USA is the one that needs to be worried, once the petro dollar is replaced.

All indicators point to an economic collapse shortly.

China is playing Russia but that's for another thread.

Why? How does Russia not paying its creditors affect Crimea, eastern Ukraine and the Baltics? Please be specific.

Two poor ignorant, know nothings.

The whole of our economy is upside down.

I will get back with some facts once I eat.

I have businesses and investments, so I have to know what's happening at all time, I can't sit around with my head up my azz.

Russia, IMO, will default on its sovereign debt (again) within six months
The last time Russia defaulted on its debt was in 1998.

The Russian government halted all government bond sales since July and it just held its first bond sale on Sept 24 since that time. The yields exceeded 9%, a full 100 basis points over the previous auction. The 9.37% rate compares to the US rate on similar term bonds of 2.55%.

The ruble has lost 9% of its value against the US dollar since the Crimea invasion and lost a full 1% today.

The Central Bank of Russia announced today it is considering intervening into the currency market to prop up the ruble's value. That is the last governmental measure available before a currency collapses, like the ruble did in 1998.

What liquidity do they have on hand? I would be surprised if they defaulted within 6 months.

No way. All he has to do is invest everything in Bitcoins, and Russia's problems will be solved. I'm not sure how, but I have it from the highest economic authorities that Bitcoins will make all other currencies and central banks obsolete.

I'm weak, and I couldn't resist the temptation to bring a little Money Talk silliness to this thread.

Six months is probably a stretch on my part. Probably more like 6 months to a year from now. Is that better?

That looks like a good incentive for them to start a war with the former-Soviet Baltic countries.
