Great American Beer Festival

Anyone making the trip for it this year?
Personally, I enjoy the events during the week that lead up to the main festival at the convention center more than the actual festival itself. Don't get me wrong, the festival floor is awesome, but it's the same every year. All the tastings, beer/food pairings, tap takeovers, brewery parties, etc are different every year and add the best variety to the overall GABF week.
ETA: If you're a first timer, the Friday night and/or Saturday night public sessions are definitely the must-experience main events.

I don't care to be around other people, and hate crowds, and the drunken shite-shows that can accompany festivals, so I doubt I ever make it.

This, and if I did, I would probably only go to the earlier sessions and avoid the clusterfrick ones.

I've enjoyed the smaller festivals I've been to more than the larger ones. I really like the tap takeovers. We have decent tap takeovers almost every day somewhere in Portland.

I can't wait until next summer. My wife mentions how excited she is for the trip to Portland about once a week now. I'm starting to think we should have kept the original plans of going in December.

I went to GABF a few years back. Thursday was a blast, Friday the crowds were bigger but was still fun, and Saturday was a total shite show...
People tried to do the members session and public session back to back and were falling down drunk and throwing up in trash cans

Have you ever been to the National Homebrewers Conference? I'd like to go to that some time. looks like a really good time. We had talked about going as a club, but nothing ever materialized. Logistics of getting beer across the country would be difficult.

So pretty much a typical Friday or Saturday night at CCB?

Welp...there goes us ever hanging out.

I haven't. I was waiting for the NHC to come to the south, but it looks like that won't be happening any time soon.
None of the big Texas clubs are interested in hosting NHC in addition to their Lone Star Circuit events.
I discussed the NHC bidding requirements with some representatives of the AHA and everyone thought NOLA would have been a perfect fit for the NHC, but unfortunately until Louisiana relaxes it's current laws in relation to homebrew/homebrewers the NHC cannot be held here.

We need a "Thanks Troy Hebert" meme like the Thanks Obama meme.

It does seem to be a reoccurring theme with old Troy.

Let me know when you plan to be here. Summer beers will be plentiful and the weather will be beautiful...
Chances are good there will be a beer festival somewhere in town. We average about 2 1/2 festivals a month in Portland...

Released at the brewery on the first Saturday of the month. Then it comes to Portland the following Wednesday.
Chasing SH is good fun. Go to The Beermongers, pick up a couple of bottles and have a draft beer. Go to Belmont Station and repeat. Go to Saraveza and do the same thing. Tin Bucket, and you get the picture...
