We made our quarterly visit to the Meridian Popeye's store on 8th Street after church today and I was shocked!

No, it is still IMO one of the two top level stores in the Popeye's chain with friendly, helpful workers and excellent food. I had a three piece with redbeans and a biscuit. Tasty! The other top level Popeye's I know is on I-20 (H-39 exit) on the East side of Meridian, beside a nice Taco Bell and our Sam's store.

So, what was the problem? Unless I have missed it our Popeye's now has chicken and sausage gumbo. Has gumbo been on their menu forever and I just (Duh) missed it? Do I need to go back sooner than my next planned (December) visit to try it?

The problem (bad news thing) is I don't need other things to pull me into Popeye's. It is hard enough to drive past that chicken and biscuits as it is.

They also had a $5.00 box special with three pieces, two sides and a single biscuit. That is more them I should eat, but I considered it, then decided to not be a pig.

I'll be sure to let you guys know how our December visit goes.

Popeyes should be consumed whenever the Saints or Tigers play football, and Mardi Gras day.

Not sure about your quarterly schedule there.

Those who see my photo recipe posts may think otherwise, but I am a very conservative eater.

Cardiac Concerns.

With my medical history - two stints - replaced with double bypass - carbon fiber mitral valve - Pacemaker, I have tons of money invested in a 10 X 10 X 10 inch area of my chest. Considering that, Popeye's is a sometimes treat and can be nothing more then that.

I have been living on borrowed time for a long time. I read WFDT daily and marvel at the reckless diets of many here. Just as if they are bulletproof and none of us are.

Theyve been having it as a seasonal item for a long time.

No doubt my attention is swayed by the excellent photo posters of three piece combo chicken deals.

I'm a sucker for fried chicken. What can I say?

The all you can eat they used to have at the Golden Meadow Popeyes was pure gold after a long day fishing. Even better whenever I was not in the drivers seat.

I probably only eat it a couple times a year now.

MD if you want a good gumbo build your own and use Popeyes fried chicken. I've been making fried chicken gumbo for 20 years and love it.

I got Popeyes for the first time in a long time and those assholes forgot my mashed potatoes. And to think they want $15/hr. :yeahImmad:

I'd have to witness this before I believe it. Regardless of city or even state, Popeye's consistently has the worst, most rude, and unprofessional employees in the fast food industry. And it's not even close.

That is my usual game plan. Just had never seen a gumbo poster on the window of my local Popeye's.

Surprised me.

It would take a lot of posters to stop me from buying chicken when I go to Popeye's.

Only eat fried chicken a few times a year - maybe six or five.

No doubt. You can't have Mardi Gras without Popeye's and King Cake!!!

I can live with that.

If you're ever in the neighborhood, have a stop and drop $5.00 into the local economy.

A 3 piece with a side is way more than you should eat?

Grow a pair. I can put down an 8 piece family pack

3 pieces of chicken ain't shite

If the money was right I'd eat a 12 pack.

However I decided a few years back to not be a chubby-butt and at my age it goes right to the gut. Losing it is no fun at all.

You may be one of those who can eat 8 pieces every meal and just shite it off a few hours later. I can't do that any more.

Remember multiple 8 piece may eventually lead to lethal clogs in those little blood vessels supplying blood to your heart and you just might die from excessive Popeye's.

Semi-pro chicken eating is not such a bad way to go if no one will miss you. However, proving you can do it all the time is not worth the waste if little DT55 kids wind up crying at their daddy's burial box. Chances are your wife can find someone else to occupy your side of the bed, so she will be OK. Not so easy on your kids.
