Looking for a casual late lunch spot to enjoy some good beer and food in Houston. I've been to Hay Merchant and enjoyed it. I've heard good things about Petrol Station as well. Which one has better food/beer options?

Any other recs besides these?

Honestly I like Petrol Station better. More relaxed atmosphere. Burgers are pretty damn good.

Brc gastropub isn't too far away, another option.

IMO, Petrol Station has better burgers. I've only eaten at Hay Merchant a couple of times, but I wasn't impressed with their burger. Some of their other food is decent.

However, HM has a much larger beer selection. HM has offerings from all over the country and some imports, as well as a few casks every day. That's not saying that PS has a bad beer selection at all, its just smaller.

Also, PS has a lot of outdoor/patio space. HM is right in the middle of Montrose and has a larger indoor area but a smaller patio.

Hope that helps.

Hay Merchant doesn't open until 3 during the week, and 11 on Saturday and Sunday... so that might help you make a decision.

I'd vote Petrol Station, I love that place. Their burgers are top notch, and their beer list is smaller, but well curated.

I think PS has better beer but less selections.

I don't like the location though. Too far from hotels. #touristproblems
But when drinking craft beer, proximity plays a big role in my bar selection.

Hay Merchant has a corporate manufactured atmosphere. I might be bias to PS since I lived in the Heights for many years and it was really close.
