I've been almost strictly on bourbon and rye the past few years, but lately I've been craving some peaty smokiness. It may be time to try the scotches again.

Me too. But for a decent Islay Malt at a better price point LaPhroaig aint half bad.

I know it is not true Scotch, but have any of you tried some of the Japanese "scotches"?

I had some for the first time on a trip to DC, I was very impressed. Also if in DC and you like Whiskey/Whisky in general, I recommend heading to Jack Rose, by far the most extensive whisky collection I have ever seen.

Also I'm half way into a bottle of Glenmorangie, and am loving every bit of it.

Jack Rose:

As a daily sipper I like the Glenfiddich 15, but picked up some Laphroaig quater cask recently that wasn't bad and at a little higher price point the Glenlivet 18 is always tasty.

Definitely a big fan of Lagavulin to though (see sig pic)

I just polished off a bottle of the Yamazaki. It was OK...won't buy again, but didn't regret trying it.

Lagavulin is one of my favorites, along with Oban.

The best I've ever had was Balvenie Peated Cask 17 at Papa's Bro's in Houston. Went looking for it immediately after returning and couldn't find it anywhere. Apparently it's rare... If anyone has a hook up, holla at ya captain.
