Soccer and rugby top the list.

easiest is NBA basketball.
Just gotta follow the script.

NFL
When things are gray, they have to turn to "rule interpretation" and do this against the gun.

That's true.
Like being an extra in a play.

Golf. All those fricked up rules, Tiger the GOAT doesn't even know all of them.

Games with the most continuous play are the toughest. Football is probably one of the easiest. You focus for 7-8 seconds, then you get a break until the next play.

Doesn't need them. He makes his own.

Football because the NFL changes the rules every fricking year
the answer is soccer because of how isolated they are.

With only one field ref (not counting the guys that call offside), I'd have to think soccer is the toughest. Real soccer fans, why don't they add another ref in the field?

Soccer because they need to run for 90+ mins

I don't know a whole lot about the soccer, so correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't soccer known for being a relatively simple game?
Basketball has some situational specific rules, but the idea is fairly straightforward.
Football has a lot of situationally specific rules from where you can touch people, judging arm positions, etc. There are just a lot of little details that go into the rules. It's kind of absurd at times.
There are other things that go into how difficult it is to be a ref, but I think that football is the hardest as far as rules go.

Hockey is pretty tough too

Soccer. It's not so much the rules, but the amount of real estate you have to cover. The reason why diving is prevalent is because refs aren't always in the best position to make the call (hence easier to fool).
Easiest would have to be the home plate umpire. Your strike zone doesn't even have to follow the letter of the law.

That would be my bet. Skating an entire game, and still have to keep their head on a swivel for flying pucks and sticks to the face.

4 in total - 2 linesman and 2 referees. Reffing hockey isn't that bad, you miss some stuff but for the most part you follow the play.
