For whatever reason I thought my Chase sapphire preferred got me access to the lounge. Apparently it does not.

Anyway, I have no need to buy an annual membership, but you can buy a day pass. Me and my girlfriend are going to Cancun the 2nd week of July and lay over in Houston is 4 hrs each way.

The thing is the day pass is $50 per person each way. Is it really worth the price? Or, does anyone know a cheaper way to get a pass without getting a credit card that offers it?

Anyone have any passes they would like to share? Lol

Four hours is a long time but I would pass unless alcohol is included.

Just go to a bar for four hours and spend the money

Can't speak for United but if I was in a similar layover situation I would do it. Delta has free draft and free finger food and snacks. Comfortable lounge space as well fast wifi. Do it. It's free for me but I'd still pay for a layover that long if I were you.

The united lounge does provide free wife, free drinks and free finger food. There is an up charge if you want top shelf liquor butt eh beer and we'll drinks are free. Ask far as the lounge, it's nothing crazy nice. It's comfortable and keeps you out of the madness that is the terminals. The only card that provides you access to the club is the Chase United mileage plus card which costs 450/year.

The Chase United Explorer card provides access, just only two tickets. I have two in my wallet I need to burn at some point.

Sign up for the chase united card, i think the first year is free and you get two passes, just cancel the card later.

$50/day is the cheapest lay you'll ever get. OTOH the ones at Singpore Air are probably much better-looking.

There are always several for sale on eBay for around $20 each. Worth it if you have a few hours to kill.

The European lounges are all worth it too, except London heathrow , you might get stuck in a satellite terminal and it may suck.

The food is so much better at the Amsterdam lounges.

Thanks! I just picked up 2 on eBay for $26 for both.

How long does it typically take to go through Us customs? I think we'll use them on the way there since coming back we have to go through customs

United lounge is not worth it. I'd leave the airport to be honest. Go hang out at the marriott.

Star Alliance is excellent (in Houston) anyway for Singapore Airlines - I'm not sure if United is in SA though, but lounge fees are better than waiting at the gate for 4 hrs. PLus, it's for vacation so splurge a bit.
