I'm going to try this here since I did not get much of a response on the OT.

I was thinking about buying the Gopro. Will use it for deep sea fishing, hunting, hiking (in case I see bigfoot), camping, and scuba.

Does anybody have any experience with this product? How good is the audio quality? How heavy is it? Does it bug the crap out of you wearing it? What don't you like?

I will probably feel weird wearing this thing but years later I will be glad that I have some videos.

I've got two I used them a bunch early on. I had to edit out so much unusable material to get snippets to relive the occasion. Then in the moment I started finding myself wondering what I can do with the camera to better capture the moment. Then I find myself saying frick this man enjoy the moment before it's gone . Then I quit bringing it out and things got better. They're great cameras but more trouble than there worth for me. Good luck

I get this. Many years ago at a family high school graduation I was asked to video record it. It was a pain. I would have enjoyed it more if I was not playing with the video recorder the entire time. But, that family member is glad it is on video.

How hard is it to turn on and off? If I'm sitting in a deer stand could I just hit a button and it will record right before I take the shot? I would use this in the same manner when fishing or recording a buddy fighting a big fish.

It's simple to operate. The problem is the charging and mounting.

You have to remove the camera from the protective case to charge. Then the battery does not last more than two hours of charge time. Then, you can't see what you're recording unless you buy another accessory, a view finder. Then you have 14 different mounts to keep up with that you never seem to have the right one for the moment.

I have a pelican case brimming with cameras and cases and wires and remotes and SD cards and chargers and screws for mounting. Just opening the case is daunting.

the guy in your pic (TeboW?) probably has someone on his staff to set it all up for him

What is this? Is this for when you are actually recording or when you get home and want to review your footage?

The lack of a zoom feature kinda sucks for hunting, but I have gotten some pretty good footage with mine.

The standard camera doesn't have a screen, so you cant see what you're shooting until you get home. You can buy a screen that mounts to the back, or download the app (100% recommend this option) that lets you stream what the camera sees to your phone and edit on the fly. Motorboat said it best, biggest drawback is battery life and having to stay organized with the attachments if you don't want it becoming a pain in the arse.

I don't own one myself but if I'm not mistaken it's easy to view live with the GoPro smartphone app. The new GoPros broadcast a wifi signal that you connect your phone to, just like any other hotspot. Then you have full control of the camera without hitting any buttons. We played with one camping and it was a breeze using the app to start/stop recording.

ETA: I think only the newest models have this ability.

I have used it for hunting but it is disappointing. Everything looks far as shite after rewatching but I have some pretty good footage of killing and a lot of footage of bullshitting in the blind. I think it works best offshore fishing I have some badass footage of our last trip offshore including my brothers first yellowfin. Even filmed the fish underwater while he was bringing it up. Very cool. I think just using it offshore is worth it and everything else is a bonus.

That is cool. The app seems like the way to go. Battery life is disappointing though.

My boss just told me his friend puts his Gopro on a drone and flys it over land. He can survey land very quickly with this method.

They're ok for certain things. Don't expect to start filming your own hunting show for outdoor channel though. They can't compare to an actual professional video camera.

I use mine hawking. I have it set for one button on/off operation. I turn it on and leave it on until I'm done, the battery runs out, or the memory card fills up. That's usually about 2 hours. Depending on how I feel that day, I might put in a fresh battery or memory card and keep it running longer.

Like someone else said though, you can get into the mindset of recording everything and not actually enjoy it while it's happening. I've been guilty of this with the gopro and with my camera.

Poor

Ive got the Hero3 Silver. The black edition may be better.

Sony makes a great adventure cam, it's built more like the Contour. It also has wifi capabilities.
