I was running the crawfish traps in our pond when I picked up this trap only to see my hand about 8-inches from this SON-OF-A-BITCH

on a better note I finished running the traps and caught about 1.5 sacks of crawfish

Whew, I can see the reason for your fears - that snake's teeth are probably damn near 1/32" long. Those crawfish are more dangerous.

I have never weighed in on the snake threads before. I do disagree with killing the beneficial snakes species that are completely harmless.

However, those fricking water snakes like to look a whole lot like vipers. At first glance, I can't tell a bit of difference.

If a man in a black mask, holding a very real looking gun replica were to run up to you and tell you to give him all your money, would you take the time to question whether the gun is real or not?

I'm not going to take the time to question whether this viper disguise wearing devil is actually a viper or not either.

Had that happen at least 100 times the 4 years I Crawfished . Always water snakes.
Last year one cut had 7 snakes in the first 5 traps.
Never get used to it.

I do agree that water snakes should be shot on the general principle of acting like a mocassin

Definitely. Those pinchers HURT! Snakebite is like a couple of small short needles in your finger.

Somebody needs to develop a pussy emoticon.

If the title of the thread would have been "what kind of snake is this in my crawfish trap" I would have said diamondback watersnake without ever looking at the pictures. They are famous for it.

They also make great crawfish bait.
