So my mom wants me to BBQ for mother's day and wont really tell me what she wants. My sister and her husband and my niece and nephew are coming over as well.

My sister requested brisket (which I've never done before) so I'm gonna start w/ that. I think I am gonna BBQ some other things too in case I mess up the brisket or the kids don't like it.

I'm gonna do bacon and shallot mac n cheese and corn bread.

What other sides should I do? What else should I BBQ or CAN I BBQ at the same time as the Brisket?

Corn,

Take grilled corn and throw it in some creamy grits.

ETA: Getya a watermelon, lightly salt, and throw it on the grill for a minute.

not really. the brisket i have done on a propane grill takes up all the burners (2 outside on, 2 inside off) and a regulated temp.

You could sear the brisket in the grill, transfer to oven, then do some chicken on the grill. I did some great chicken a few weeks ago with a similar low and slow method. I used the same rub i put on my pulled pork and a home made bbq sauce.

Chantilly cake. That's what I was thinking!

And that looks pretty damn good, Wink.

What is and where do I get lemon curd?

Ah. Chantilly cake is indeed awesome.

Lemon curd is pure deliciousness and I, like you, did not know this when I went to make this last year. You can usually find it by the jellies. Prepare to have your mind blown.

I think this is the exact one I did. May be the same as the previous link. May not. Too lazy to look right now. LINK

If you've never done one, brisket is pretty ambitious.

My blue cheese and cilantro cole slaw is always a huge hit if you want the recipe.

What are you cooking on? Knowing this will help to determine your other meat options.

Chicken is the easy answer but ribs will be appreciated more.

Post that recipe, please.

I'm guessing your BBQing the brisket, so you can throw a pork butt on the smoker as well. Both take a good amount of time and you can't really mess up the butt.

Me too, nik! I want that recipe.

Neauxla, are you going to smoke the brisket or actually try to grill it? It takes a while to do it right regardless of the method. It can be done early and reheated low in the oven, if need be. I like the idea of searing it for some flavor and finishing in the oven, low and slow, if you're limited by space or you're using one grill.

As suggested, you could grill some chicken and/or ribs. You could also grill some pork chops/pork tenderloin and/or sausage.

For sides, you could go with:

Slaw (minus the blue cheese if you must)
macque choux or grilled corn or grilled corn grits
smothered corn
green beans with new potatoes
grilled or roasted asparagus
Roasted broccoli
Roasted or baked sweet potatoes
Grilled bread
Baked beans
