I fished out of Falgout Canal Marina for the first time this weekend. I've fished every bayou in the Houma area before but there. There were a lot of people this weekend. Saw a lot of things I've never seen before.

I've never seen so many people fly by camps with boats in the water. Had people overtake boats while coming straight at me in a small canal forcing me off to the side. We had someone drive around us at the launch to cut in front of us to pick up the boat. Plus a handful of other things. Are there really that many jackasses out there? Does Dularge just draw crappy people? There are always a handful of idiots, but I haven't had that many incidents of shitty etiquette in one trip before.

I launch out of Falgout and Jugs.... Never really seen people do that.... its common sense and courtesy,, but now a days... thats hard to come by. If you see a boat tied to a dock... No Wake... thats the way i was taught anyways

Every single person ran the whole canal at the other end of Lake Decade. Couldn't imagine that in Cocodrie. People sometimes do it, but this was like a major highway of boats flying through. And I understand people overtaking me, my little flats boat only does about 30. But not with boats coming the other way in a small canal. Just a bunch of stuff I wouldn't do to others.

I was in the boat, friend was in my truck. Another guy was in the launch. We were waiting for him to pull out. Before he does. Another guy pulls in front of him and lines up to go in. Truck pulls out and has to kind of go around the guy. Guy backs in. Dick move.

As long as its not a no wake zone why do you expect people to slow down they should but in today's world people aren't the most courteous know what I mean

Most people don't realize that "flying" is better than half throttle.

The less boat in the water, the smaller the wake. Personally I prefer them flying by.

People who ride on squat are definitely the worst. But idle is still better than running. The only guys I kind of understood were the redfish tournament guys since they had big cash on the line. Everyone else is just going get their line wet for a relaxing weekend. No need to get out there 10 minutes faster if it means disrespecting others's property.

Had never heard that used.

Certainly agree with reference to the ones fishing for a living.

thats asinine. Courtesy is courtesy. Fishing for money doesn't exempt you from treating other people and their property with respect.

Gives them an exemption to fly by, certainly.

And as was stated, "flying" is better than half throttle. If you fish in a channel used for navigation, you know what you're in for.

NO, No, no.
WTF?
You cannot be serious.
The only boaters that should be excused are those with a legitimate medical emergency on board!

As a sailor I am extremely aware of whether the average boater knows what he's doing or not. VERY VERY few actually know what no wake means or how to achieve it. When we see one that does it actually blows our minds because it's that rare. As for going by outside of no wake zones like near docks or at anchor we'd much prefer you get as much of your boat out of the water as possible.

Unfortunately most people go "Oh uh, guess I should slow down right about the time they get up close then come off plane, throw up the biggest wake their boat could possibly accomplish then motor by at maximum wake patting themselves on the back for having slowed down not realizing that they've done exactly the opposite of what would have actually been helpful.

Not many people in this state really know what they're doing in power boats and think that simply because they've been driving one since they were a kid they somehow understand the art of it. I'm sorry, but my mother has been driving for over fifty years but that doesn't make her Mario Andretti.

I'm not saying its okay for them. I just get why they want to run fast everywhere.

I don't mind my idle time. It's relaxing and usually my only time to sip on a beer. I don't see why the common weekend warrior's got to get everywhere as quickly as possible.

What canal do you have a problem being passed in? Falgout or bayou decade?

As for proper etiquette you are responsible for your wake. I try to stop for every camp with a boat. The camp owner should have some responsibility and tie their boats up for wakes.

If you want to see bad boating/fishing etiquette go to the islands/rigs on a busy weekend. People will anchor where you are casting. Or fish lake decade when the trout are biting.

Most stuff took place in bayou decade. I just feel thats not the place to be doing that with all the camps there. I don't care about getting passed in a place like falgout canal. I only got overtaken once that I thought was iffy. The major was a guy coming at me. I got way over because he did it close enough to me for me to not know if he even saw me. Everythimg else was just the fact that people just ran the whole bayou.
