Do they teach this in the "new" boater's course? If not, they should

Sadly, most people I see operating boats are old enough to have been grandfathered in

They should teach that taking your boat off plane when passing somebody is not just about making a wake.

Going past somebody at 50mph is exponentially more dangerous than going past somebody at 5mph. I'm tired of people blasting by me wide open because they're so smart and making less wake.

Slow your shite down.

I dated a girl with a camp in bayou decade and know about 4 or 5 ppl with camps in it. The no wake zone is at the curve where the raccurci meets decade. The rest is fair game and the locals are aware of it. It would take you 30 minutes to get through there of you had to slow down for every boat.

Be careful what you wish for because most people that come off plane to slow down to go by you do it much too late and thus you get a WAY WORSE wake coming at you. Then they don't go to actual no wake speed, they just push their boat through the water slower than when they were planing thinking that's good enough when it is actually the opposite and worse than if they'd just flown by you.

Agree, It would take an hour to idle through.

The only guys I kind of understood were the redfish tournament guys since they had big cash on the line.

That is pure bullshite. I used to bass tournament fish and if I had to pass thru no wake zones or other boats, I would and all should shut there shite down. I always gave extra time for traveling. No matter what, it's the right thing to do!

Again, I agree that it's bullshite. They don't get special permission. I can just see why they'd want to run and be annoyed everytime they have to idle. I couldn't care less when I have to idle. I'm just going out there to have a good time. I don't have to be the first guy out there. Unless there's a storm kicking up, then I'm running, I don't care if your boats there.

Also, I've come to realize that it's just acceptable to run in Bayou Decade, just different courtesy rules in different places. Takes us 45 minutes to idle to the Coco Marina from the camp in Cocodrie (granted it's usually a booze cruise), but we still idle 90% of the way due to camps. Not so much in the winter when no-one's there, but in the summer there are too many boats to get on top for two seconds just to get off again.

Probably the busiest marina/launch in the parish with lots of d-bags on any given weekend. I avoid launching there if i can help it. I have noticed that there is a lack of respect in general while on the water as compared to say 15 years ago. I think it has to do with more boaters on the water.

Yeah we have a camp near Robinson Canal and i make sure my boat is well fendered as maybe 30-40% of the boats respect the moored vessels by idling. The large center consoles usually are ok it is the bay boats that usually fly by.
