Now that would be a truly WTF pick.

But teams like the Saints do this because they want to see these guys for the future, and they know they will be going against them at some point. There's no substitute for scheming against someone that you saw in person.

Bush might not even make the roster by the time training camp kicks off.

I'm the Champ at leaving slow pitch softballs for the next batter.

I'll disagree here. Out of the ~250 kids that get drafted and however many get signed as UDFAs, each team obly gets 30 visits. I doubt the staff would waste their time and a visit on a kid they had no interest in, and for future scheming. Besides, I doubt you would even get much to use from these visits to use for future scheming. I'll admit it is strange because Safety is at very low need, but there has to more to his visit then preparing for facing him in the future.

Yup....but if at pick #27 they have him ranked considerably higher than any other player then I'm sure they take him.

Just doing their homework. They probably have him pretty high on their board and figure he could be one of the guys that fall. So you kick the tires just in case to see if he really is can't pass at 27.

And there is also the mind games that go into the process. If you meet with everyone you want and expect to be there teams will know exactly who you are shooting for. So there is some subterfuge.

its a mind game like you said. you see him at 27, somehow he drops, another team that is interested sees you there calls you up for a trade.

and that's why they bring him in. They define exactly how they rank him compared to other players at perhaps higher need. If you rank him #15-20 on your big board do you still take him over one of the WRs or CBs that you have #25-35 range? Ya have to be prepared for every scenario of particular players being available

At 27? Of course but I'm not sure why you're asking.
