State your case for or against.

Personally, I fall into the camp of believing that there is life outside of our own world. I think the line from Contact about sums it up. With as big as the universe is and if we are the only living beings in it, it sure seems like a big waste of space (pun intended). That and it's very likely that some of these other beings are more advanced technologically than us. I do not subscribe to the tin foil hat conspiracy theories, however. Maybe some of the Ancient Alien type stuff where they have already visited but the government coverup type stuff is just too out there for me.

Funny that all the UFO shite is from the 70's when almost nobody had cameras. Now we have them on every street and haven't seen shite.

That said, I believe.

Anyone who believes there isn't life outside of our planet somewhere in the vast expanses of the cosmos is either brain dead stupid or arrogant beyond repair. I don't care if this life is intelligent or not. Any man who honestly believes that no other life form exists outside of this planet is absurdly ignorant and arrogant.

To what? There are no facts to support your theory. Someone is ignorant because they don't subscribe to an opinion?

Life, yes. Self-aware intelligent life, no.

Enadious was probably the best poster TD has had at enumerating all the factoids on why it would be improbable, but really, it's silly to even speculate on numerical odds of things when nobody can even say if the physical universe is infinite or not.

There are so many gray areas between life and non-life, that of course I think that some kind of self-replicating matter with a growth-and-death life cycle exists out there, but consciousness and intelligence is a whole different thing, and just from very basic abstract philosophical principles, I tend to believe that the chances of self-awareness arising from inanimate matter is practically zero. I don't believe, for example, that anyone will ever create a computer that becomes self-aware. There's no way to prove that wrong, and I used to believe the very opposite thing, but that's just the direction my thought has traveled in as certain principles have become clearer to me.

Relax and get a latte' with the girls. You seem stressed.

No life, we're it.
No UFOs, no alien overlords.
