Do you tip post tax or pre tax?

I was wondering this the other day. I always tipped after tax, but a lot of people say they tip before, as you pay a tip on the things you buy and tax is a percentage taken from the same figure as your tip should be.
IDK.
Probably random
Another thing is, you know when you get bottles of wine at a place, why do you tip 20% for a bottle of wine? I do and get it, but man you get a $200 bottle and then have to tip $40 for them to bring it to you. Meanwhile the bartender makes a 6-7 step cocktail and gets on average $2 a drink.

Sometimes I give only the tip.

I've never put nearly that much thought into tipping. I look at the final bill total, tip 20%, call it a day.

I tip on the before tax amount.

Seriously, my brain has enough on its plate.

Before tax for meals, but I tip based on what they do at bars. $1 for opening or pouring a beer. $0-4 depending on how good the drink is that they make me. Never bought a bottle of wine, but if I did, I'd probably tip them $5 if they opened it in front of me

Wife and I usually calculate the tip post-tax.

When in Louisana I double the tax. If the service was great ill round up a little. If service sucks I round down. If it's a lot of alcohol I tip about $1-2 per drink order. Why should my tip e reflective of the amount of my order? A PBR doesn't require any less waiting ability than a high end liquor. Same tip.

double tax is good, but I like to give 20 for good service and doubling tax is less than the optimal 18.5% they strive for...

Pre-Tax
Why give a gratuity for the gubment tacking on their %??
The server has nothing to do with the tax.

Double tax. DC restaurant tax is 10%, so it works out perfect.

Take tax and double that equals tip

I always try to make the ticket a nice even number, so I guess that means after then.

I typically double the tax

But if I'm out of town that doesn't always work. Sometimes the tax is too low and some places have really low tax for non-alcoholic service.
