I make my own too.

The stuff they sell in the grocery store is awful, nutritionally.

Can't beat it. I like roasting red peppers and adding those.

In last months Chopped Challenge, I soaked wasabi peas for a couple hours then made hummus with half of those and half chick peas. Awesome flavor.

I sub out Tony's for salt to give mine a little Cajun flare. Everyone loses their mind over it.

I used them straight out of the can...kept the liquid to use as needed in the food processor

Mine always comes out a little "grainy". I can't get the smooth texture of the restaurant/store boughts.

Run it longer in the food processer, and maybe add a bit more liquid or olive oil.

I made my second batch last night. My first attempt had that grainy texture you mentioned. Last night I ground the chickpeas in stages and ran it longer. This seems to have solved my texture issues.

I use this recipe and it's always a hit.

Jalapeno & Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

2 (15-oz.) cans garbanzo beans
2 Tbsp. tahini paste
3 garlic cloves
1 Tbsp. ground cumin
3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 lemon, juiced
Salt, to taste
2 jalapeños, seeded and ?nely chopped
1 roasted red pepper
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
Salt

1. In a food processor, combine the garbanzo beans, tahini paste, garlic cloves, 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice and salt; blend until a smooth paste forms. Reserve.
2. In a bowl, mix the jalapeños, roasted red pepper and 1/4 cup olive oil; add salt to taste.
3. To serve, place the pepper mix on top of the center of the hummus; serve with baked pita bread or pita chips.
