Thrillist's Top 21

WARNING: Not Safe If Hungry

Really nice group I think, and guess who's in it?

Full of food porn

NEW ORLEANS, LA
COCHON BUTCHER

WHAT YOU'RE GETTING: The Cochon Muffuletta
Everyone knows that New Orleans’ muffuletta is the king of sandwiches. That fact is indisputable. What is up for debate, however, is which place in New Orleans serves the finest specimen of this gargantuan stack of olive tapenade, mortadella, salami, mozzarella, ham, and provolone -- and the top dog is most certainly Cochon Butcher, a wine bar-butcher counter combo that’s got the city’s best sandwich menu (“bacon melt”, anyone?). Central Grocery may be the original, but it can’t compare to the freshness of CB’s house-cured meats, melty cheese, spicy olives, and soft, gloriously chewy bread.

God that website layout is fricking obnoxious.

Butcher's muffy is damn good, but they have a couple other sandwiches I think are better.

Going to check out Animals at the Wayland when I'm up NYC in a couple months. Looks like a cool little spot.

Me too. Pork belly and Cuban come to mind, with a heavy emphasis on the braised pork belly. Ridic.

The crunchy chicken at Local Foods is pretty good, however my favorite from Local is the roast beef with curried cauliflower.

Butcher & Bee, Mitchell's Deli, and Cochon Butcher are great. Primanti Brothers, not so much.

Get the Banh Mi on Wednesday's at Butcher & Bee.
I had Kalbi with Kimchi Mayo at Mitchell's. Their bread was incredible. I can't remember exactly what I had at Cochon, but it wasn't a muff. It was some pork belly item, but it was really good.

Primanti Brothers wasn't that good in my opinion. I had the corned beef and cheese. The bread was nothing extraordinary. I've had better corned beef at Butcher & Bee, Noshville, Stein's, Katz's, etc. They slaw was dry and their fries they pile on top (which really isn't what I like) were overly greasy and soggy. Just not that great of a sandwich.

I can't get the link to load on my computer, I see a pic of the muff and then a white page after that point.

i went there a few years ago and it was ok, nothing special really, but certainly not bad.

johns in philly is good, but dinics pork sandwich is much much better imo.

my favorite sandwich is the rueben at kelly's in neptune city, nj. ive actually seen 2 different governors of nj in there on separate occasions.
