Albuquerque police chief says shooting was justified. Man was mentally ill and had previous encounters with police.

APD now accounts for 22 shooting deaths since 2010.

I'm surprised it's not a higher number considering where Albuquerque is located and the types of people the APD probably has to deal with on a regular basis.

Why do we not have tranquilizers for situations like this? Guy was clearly crazy. If he was a bear, he would be knocked out with a dart gun and taken to a safe place.

Just hit him with a dart and be done with it.

Look like a murder to me. Too bad nobody had a hand grenade to drop in there when they crowded around the guy they shot.

Damn that's rough.. Looks like an unjustified killing to me.. He clearly turned his back and was shot.. If you have the dogs, why not let them do their job

The shooting was justified, Eden said, because Boyd, holding knives, threatened an officer and the use of “less-than-lethal” devices hadn’t worked, he said.

WTF does the link have to do with it? It was the one that came up on my news feed and it has the video in it.

Post a different one if you want. Maybe one that doesn't blow.

Link to the video: LINK

The cops basically shot him in the back and THEN decided to use nonlethal means to subdue him...after he was pretty much dead.

These cops should be tried for murder and executed if found guilty.

I just saw that video. How does one get a freaking justified shooting out of that one?

I mean I am not a big time anti cop person like some on this board, but the cops rush in and the guy moves and get shot.

I am sorry, if a flashbang went off near me and a dog started rushing towards me I would make a move instinctively. That is what that looked like.

Curious if that is all there is to it or if there is more? Can a civilian group or a non police person look into this? Does the chief have the final word? I am just stunned he would say justified shooting.

I am sure there are some police oversight groups getting ready for the warpath as we speak.

This is my thought. A different situation if he had a gun but he doesn't. Hit him with a bean bag or two. If he was a problem after that then it seems like they would have more of a case. Also, wouldn't pepper spray hit the guy even from that distance assuming the wind wasn't an issue?

I usually defend police but that was pathetic and criminal.

Damn, that man did not need to die.

Cold blooded murder doesn't usually involve someone with 2 knives in their hands threatening to kill you and making a move at an officer.

but frick the police right.
