Your job choices. Peope hold on to shitty jobs for "decent plans."
You are forced to have it.
They collect collect collect, then underpay when you need them and jack your rate up when you do
An event occurs and the entire regions policy gets re written to make sure they get to keep your money.
SAE gets strong armed and drops thier pledge program. Every organization and businesses behavior is driven by them.
Meanwhile google the average car insurance profit margins.. Legalized extortion
/rant
It should not exist as a for profit industry.

There are not for profit insurance companies.

That being said, is there a less fool-prof business to get into? You literally make all the rules that slant to your end of the table.

So many idiots....each more ridiculous than the next...never stopping for a moment to contemplate what they are actually suggesting or where it leads.

I do agree with what you are saying in general...I could probably retire 20 years early if it were not for needing to have healh care insurance...
the insurance industry, however, is heavily regulated, so profits are fairly well limited by the government...
of course, some of the very things that run insurance costs up are things that they are forced to cover by the government...
honestly, you would be suprised how much some people wrack up in claims every year...for instance, viagra costs a hell of a lot for every pop....

Don't let insurance companies fool you. They have plenty of moula. They have the ears of politicians and they are controlling the dialogue.

I think it's the tort lawyers making the laws that causes insurance to be so high.
If we weren't such a sue happy society, insurance premiums wouldn't be so high.
Take a ride around Europe and you can easily see that they force people take responsibility for their own actions instead of suing each other for their own stupidity.
Not gonna change as long as we keep electing attorneys.

Fear based thinking shapes most people's lives and actions from religion to healthcare to insurance to politics. It's how the powers that be remain the power and money brokers. Create the fear and then propose yourself, your product, your belief, your political solution as the answer to eliminating that fear. If people would read up on psychology a little more they would see right through consumerist capitalism, religion, politicians, advertising much more easily.

Add lawyers to that mix also. Of course most politicians are lawyers. That should be a tip off to most people that most of them are full of shite.

State Farm Profit Surges to $3.2 Billion as Claims Drop.
State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., the largest U.S. home and car insurer, said 2012 profit quadrupled as claims costs declined at the unit providing residential coverage.
Net income for the year increased to about $3.2 billion from $800 million a year earlier, the Bloomington, Illinois- based company said today in a statement. Claims costs at the home unit fell to $13.5 billion from $15.4 billion.
Insurers benefited from lower U.S. catastrophe costs in the first nine months of 2012 than a year earlier when tornadoes demolished parts of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Joplin, Missouri. Results in the first three quarters cushioned the industry for losses when superstorm Sandy struck in October.

Medicare for everyone would certainly free a lot of people and increase their mobility.

I think everything should be free and shared by everyone. frick the puritan work ethic. More conditioning by religion and corporations. We weren't put on this earth to scratch and claw to survive and work our fingers to the bone. Not that I mind work either. But an economic system that become the end all be all of existence is a sick misguided system and a huge reason for the social ills we suffer from today.

Ok, so obviously you disagree. So how about going ahead and providing your argument for what I consider getting shaken down legally?

I undestand your frustration, I am insurance poor.
That said, removing the profit motive from an enterprise is the absolute worst solution. Take a look at the government running any large-scale enterprise.
I was jus messing with you.

Not down with the government being in charge of anything. A co-op type arrangement or subscriber owned I would support. I deal with USAA which is a member shareholder arrangement. Get a modest dividend every December.
