Got a cab after Endymion to take us from the Dome to our hotel. About halfway through the 10 minute trip, I realized he wasn't running the meter.
There were 6 of us in the cab. Wanted $5/person because it was a "Special Event" rate. Called him out on his BS and gave him a $20 and got out.
Wife said I shouldn't have even paid him. Anyone ever just walked out on them? I got his medallion number/license.

Would have been a dick move, but there would have been nothing he could do.

special event rates are common

Usually 6 people in a cab starts the flat rate regardless of the special event rate. This is all usually spelled out on the side of the cab.
I'd figure one of these would have applied to your group yesterday,

All NOLA cabs suck because they take cash only, what fricking year is it.

$5 bucks / person for a 10 minute cab ride doesnt sound that bad.
are you a serious cheap arse or something?

Pedicabs were charging 40.00 from the Superdome to the Roosevelt hotel. I laughed at the guy and told him he was a joke.

Other cab drivers try in pull that shite but when you have the option for a credit card, you just tell them you have no cash and they get all pissy because now they are fricked.

That hasn't been true since the super bowl, but still that took awhile.
What's funny is now you can negotiate a cash rate with the cabby that's cheaper because they don't want to report the credit card income

They still have to use the meter. Not using the meter makes it an illegal ride. He wouldnt have called the cops.

Every cab I've taken in Nola in the past year has taken CCs

Yea, I was in no state of mind to think about this.

Every cab in the city is breaking the law then. I'll read the side of the next one I see. Then find a statute provision.
