There's a 2-3 hour period beginning after the parade ended that I have minimal recollection of what occurred.

I've clarified my position on what happened.

I lived in nola about two years ago and took cabs everywhere and lots of time diddn't have cash so used a card. Every single one i got in and said didnt' have cash have a portable card machine that is out of view. They don't like it, but they have it.

Anytime i used the card though it's always a card i have as a "spare" not a card i use regularly and definitely not my debit card. Something you can dispute as i THINK the cards machines were the older type that copied the whole card.

My experience at least, i'm sure it's changed in two years.

They are real pain in the arse. If you want to leave the French Quarter during a big event to go fricking home, home being Uptown or MidCity, they will refuse to pick you up. They'd rather take all the short FQ fares and it really sucks until you get a nice one, or just trick them.

I don't know how it works in NO, but in NY if you get in the cab they have to take you anywhere within the city limits. Including the farthest corners of the Bronx or SI.

As I said earlier it wasn't intentional, he made no mention of the "special event" rate...which still isn't clear if Endymion Extravaganza is a "special event" and he is still supposed to run the meter.

Ya, there is a follow up post where I said they lean out the window and ask you where you are going. They don't do this on "regular" days, so you have to try to get in the cab before they pull their stunt.

And a law is only as good as its ability to be enforced.

The special event isn't the Extravaganza, it is the Mardi Gras parades in general.

That's how it's supposed to work in New Orleans, but good luck getting home if you're going Uptown or to Lakeview. You have even less luck getting one to come to your house to pick you up if you live in outside of the CBD/FQ.

I was trying to get home uptown one night and told the cabbie I was going to the airport. After I got in and we were underway i told him I had to stop uptown and get my luggage. We got to my house, gave him a $20 and walked inside. Needless to say he wasn't very happy.

Cheap bitch huh?

WTF is wrong with you guys not wanting to pay for his service? Would you have rathered him run the meter? Guy is just trying to make cash for dealing with drunk belligerent assholes like yourself at 3 am.
And your cheap arse put 6 in a cab trying to frick him even more? So you dumb-asses decided saving about $2 per person is where you were gonna save some money after spending hundreds or thousands?

I have no choice but to tell you you suck for this....then your wife wanting to stiff him? Geez

Legally he is supposed to. And again, he didn't mention the special event price when we got in the cab...which would have ended all confusion there.

It was a mini-van and I wasn't belligerent to him or anyone else.

Well, to be fair getting a cab for any huge event is difficult. The cabs will be at Jazzfest to get people, but its difficult with all the people trying to get them. They will be fine going to the FQ from the festival, but I could see you having some problems getting them to anywhere else.

And isn't that address in the ghetto?
