Any recent grads of one of the LSU Health DPT programs (or any DPT program for that matter) care to share on their experience?

Work load?

Hardest part?

Etc.

Graduated lsuhsc Nola dpt a few years back. First year is similar to other programs with anatomy/physiology/neuroanatomy etc but it gets easier as you go. 3rd year is mostly clinicals and the easiest. Are you starting in may? What is tuition like now?

Well I graduate with my BS in May, but I wouldn't be able to start until next May because I still have few prerequisites to take. Tuition in Shreveport is roughly 16k a year while NO is something like 17k a year.

If you don't mind me asking, I've heard NO teaches differently than Shreveport, how was the teaching method?

I love what I do and wouldn't change it, but think long and hard about those school loans. I work at an outpatient clinic and do home health and am starting to do very well after a few years, but be prepared to have some decent school loans and come out with a 60-65k salary at first until you have a little experience.

Not a PT but from what I hear...

Shreveport >>> Nola in terms of LSUHSC.

That's my biggest fear are the loans. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you owe when you graduated?

I would agree with golfer, Nola took a hard hit after Katrina with their faculty, but are turning it around now. Honestly it doesn't matter where you go to school, just get your dpt and get rolling. 90% of what I do in practice I learned in clinicals or after school other than the basics.

LSU is going to run you $60k ish

Private or out of state public (UAB, south al, UTMB, st. Aug) is going to be $90-$140

Do not take a dollar out in loans that you do not have to have. Loans can wreck your first few years out. And understand that reimbursements are flatlining and in some cases declining... And PT salaries are being affected.

Yea, no private school if you don't have a second income from a spouse/so...

Which is crazy because the preventative care they can do would save insurance companies serious dough in the long run.

Crazy that it's that much, not all doctorate programs at LSUHSC NO are that expensive.

Go to the cheapest school that is the most convenient for you. PT isn't like law or medical school where it really matters where you went to school.
It is a great field imo.

That's what I was thinking, too. NO >>> SHV in terms of social life.

Great field. I know it's not much to the OT ballers but with a little experience and the right opportunities you can make 100k or much more if you own hour own clinic and get to do something incredibly fun and rewarding.

Do travel PT for a year or two if you are worried about the loans. You could pay them off if that's what your immediate goal is.
