Has anyone on here ever borrowed money from a family member to invest?

No, but learn to be emotionally cold if you do this. As in, you don't care if family members never speak to you again.

I've lent. If I get paid back it is always a surprise.

I have never borrowed money to invest.

I know several people who borrowed against the equity in their homes and were bankrupted. Divorces, children's lives disrupted, families torn apart. The financial and emotional risk is just too scary. Not worth the risk.

If you care about the relationship at all, don't do this.

i've bought stocks on margin and shorted. dubious proposition even without family issues involved. best to keep your borrowing at arm's length, period.

No. I've had family members offer me money to invest for them. I had a very honest discussion with them and politely refused. My family uses money as a means of guilt and guilt as a means of control. I wouldn't want my relationships to be jeopardized in any way any more than what they are already.
