Not sure if you guys have seen it, but a sinkhole in Bowling Green, KY has swallowed 8 Corvettes at the Vette museum. About 3 or 4 or them look salvageable. The others are not even visible.

Eight Corvettes were swallowed up by the sinkhole. The affected 'Vettes include a 1962 model, a 1984 Corvette pace car, the millionth-Corvette ever built (a 1992 C4 model), a 1993 Corvette 40th Anniversary Edition, a 2001 Corvette Z06, and the 1.5 millionth Corvette ever built, a 2009 C6. Two GM-owned Corvettes on loan to the museum were also damaged, including the blue 2009 Corvette ZR1, and a 1993 Corvette ZR-1 Spyder. I saw this yesterday, my main question is now what? I'd assume the structural integrity of the building would have to be evaluated before they decide what's next. I'd assume filling in the hole and putting some newspaper over it isn't a sufficient fix.
ETA: I went there a few years ago and really enjoyed it, could you imagine had this happened during business hours?

It's definitely a good thing that it happened when no one is there. That's for damn sure.
I don't know what they will do next. I imagine the owners are thinking "of all the spots in the US, why does a sinkhole have to appear below some of the most valuable Corvettes ever?" It's such a shame.

Let's build a museum over an old coal mine.

Too bad about the loss of the 62, but I wouldn't have walked across the street to look at the other 7.

I don't know. Wouldn't surprise me if some old unknown mines were there.

i've been there, saw all those cars before they we're engulfed into the earth
one of best friends/dad's best friends is a big corvette guy,(has matching #'s '66 stingray, '65 stingray and a '58.. drives the shite out of all of the them, we swapped out the '66's motor for a crate), he was basically depressed upon hearing the news.. but as he said,"they are newer models, so they'll just get some more chinese parts to put on 'em"

A real shame. I'm sure they can fix 'em - a ZR-1 prototype was fully restored by Mid America Motorworks after GM intentionally tried to destroy it. But the original cars are only original once.

Yea man. I'm most upset about that '62 and the '09 ZR1 because it's such a beast.

At least they weren't any owner's cars.
A lot of times they will have borrowed cars on display.
Word from NCM is that the structure is fine and everything will be back fixed before the museum's 20th anniversary this August
