Hakeem Olajuwon includes Lebron, Shaq in his All-Time Starting Five

Earlier this month, Michael Jordan listed the five players he'd want to start for his all-time basketball team.
Hakeem Olajuwon was one of them, and in an interview with NBA Africa's Aman Ali, the two-time NBA champion named his own all-time starting five and surprisingly didn't include himself on the list.
"That's a tough question because I need to think about that," Olajuwon said. "There's a lot of great great players, hmmm. Michael Jordan, no question. You gotta put LeBron James in there too, no question. Point guard, John Stockton. Shaquille O'Neal, center. Power forward? Oh man, hmmm, I would pick Moses Malone."
Olajuwon had more Jordan-related comments.
He was also asked if he believes his Houston Rockets would have lost to the Chicago Bulls if Jordan hadn't briefly retired after the 1992-93 season, a nearly two-year hiatus during which the Rockets won back-to-back NBA Finals.
"You know, I hear that all the time," Olajuwon said. "You never know. What I do know for sure, you've got to give credit to the Orlando Magic. Orlando beat Chicago in the (1995) playoffs and Michael Jordan was there. Earlier in the season, Michael Jordan had a great game against New York, he put up 50-something points. He was in great shape, and in the playoffs Orlando beat them. Orlando had Shaquille, Penny Hardaway, Horace Grant. They were a tough team, and they beat Chicago."

Anyone who doesn't take shaq in his prime is stupid. It was unfair he was so unstoppable.

Those first couple of championships with the Lakers he threw up ridiculous arcade stats every night in the finals.

The Dream is too humble to put himself on that team.

quote:True. And he's willing to include players from outside his era because he's not an insecure head case like Jordan.

This.
It was literally 2-6 backdown dribbles and a dunk what felt like 70% of the time.

What in the shite happened to Penny Hardaway? He was badass, won a title, did the Lil Penny commercials, had it going on, then fell off the planet. How'd he go down the shitter so fast?

Shaq made him above average.

This, guy was a machine. Shaq in his prime was incredible and fun as hell to watch.

I absolutely disagree. Center is the most competitive position among all-time greats. Kareem and Wilt were also unstoppable. Russell is also in the mix.
Prime Shaq was certainly one of the best players ever, but you cannot unequivocally say he was the best center ever. Those guys played in different sure, but they put up disgusting numbers. In 1961-1962, Wilt had 63 games of 40+ points.

quote:This. Shaq is clearly best center of all time. If you put Shaq on those Celtic teams Russell played for or teams Jabbar played for, He'd score 80 pts a night. He would knock both of those guys and Chamberlain around all night.

quote:I like Stockton a lot but no way anyone would take him over Magic. Magic, Jordan, Shaq, Bird, and Lebron.
Stockton over Magic?

You can't just give Shaq the modern advantages and insert into the games played Wilt, Kareem, and Wilt. There is no true answer because they played in vastly different eras.

I have been saying this. Shaq in his prime - I'm taking no other player than MJ over him to start a team and I would strongly consider Shaq to be honest.

Probably paying him respect because of all the Rockets-Jazz battles in the '90s. Plus their careers overlapped.
