With his starting job gone and his playing time slashed, Rockets center Omer Asik has asked to be traded, two individuals with knowledge of the request said Thursday.
Asik, who started every game after signing with the Rockets last season, came off the bench Wednesday in Philadelphia, but struggled. He played only four minutes and not at all in the second half. Asik has made his trade request within the past 48 hours, a person familiar with the conversations said.

The Rockets have no trade involving Asik in the works, with one individual saying a deal is more likely in months than in days.

Asik declined comment, referring questions to his agent, Andy Miller. Miller also would not comment on any trade request.

“?I would say the situation is very frustrating right now and we?re trying to work through it,?” Miller said. “?For Omer, the objective has always been to continue to develop and grow as a player. That’?s why we came to Houston in the first place. If that objective can?’t be met, if we can’?t get the right platform to grow and contribute as a player, it’?s certainly frustrating.?”

Remember when the Rockets thought they could play them together? Asik for Anderson --- make it happen

Asik would be awful on the Pelicans squad. He has no offense, and the defensive problem is the scheme, not the players.

Get real. I'll give them some garbage if they want it.

They aren't getting Ryno for a player that is openly requesting a trade and doesn't fit.

Scouting Asik on TNT right now. The Rockets are -31 with him and Howard on the floor together

Smiht has looked like a mongoloid out there on defense since his 6 block game.

I've cooled off a bit on trading Ryno for him. Plus, as the season progresses and Asik gets more disgruntled/plays less time (4 minutes last night in an OT game), his value will continue to drop. And I'm not sure that many teams want to pay him ~$15m next season, even with half that counting against the cap. I would lowball them with something based around Smiht (who I actually think would be a good fit there), but it would be tough to get salaries to match after that. I don't think Aminu/Stiemsma/Morrow can be traded for another month or two, and I doubt Houston would be interested in any of them.

ETA: I would jump all over Ryno for Asik/Casspi.

Obviously not. But Asik's value is only going down, and he's not worth Ryno.

You guys will likely get a few pieces from someone else.

We were 5-3 with the 2 of them playing together and one of the losses was when we missed 20FTs...So you can't really blame that on the TT.

Harden has been hurt to start the season, 10% down on 3s from last year, Parsons is down 15% on 3s from last year. Just pitiful from behind the arc.
eta Beverly down 12% from 3.

He played 4 minutes last night in an OT game. McHale obviously doesn't like what he sees of them on the floor together.

McHale said he was 50/50 on it yesterday before the game.

I don't mind the trade if they want to deal him because I know Morey will more than likely "win".
