They've got 21 minutes total together in the last 3 games. TT experiment looks like its on ice for a while.

Asik would be awful on the Pelicans squad. He has no offense, and the defensive problem is the scheme, not the players.

Yeah, heaven forbid the guy with zero offense still score an efficient 10 PPG

Or be one of the best P&R defenders in the league

Or lead the league in rebounds.

Hasn't missed a game in 3 seasons.

Of course everyone was drooling over Hibbert opening night. Dude went for 6/4/5 and shot 40% against us. There is more ways to judge a players impact besides numbers.

Look at that contract and his stats in NBA2K... Dude must be overrated and overpaid!

Greg Smith being helped off the floor. Now they REALLY need a PF.

ETA: Nevermind, I was confusing him with Jones. Still hurts their depth.

Who would you want on your team? Asik or Hibbert?

Straight up as a player? Hibbert

Weighing contracts? Asik. Hibbert makes like $15m

They really aren't that far apart

When the playoffs start and the game starts to slow down, and guarding the rim is a premium, give me Hibbert. I like Asik too. Edge to Hibbert. Like you said, it's not too far off.

Well playing in a 4 out, 1 in bombs away offense helps him. Playing with dribble dribble dribble brick Mid Range All-Stars won't. Plus he needs to be the roll man in PnR to keep up that efficiency. Davis is much better at that.

Not doubting that. At all. But if Monty wants him 25 feet away from the rim, he isn't going to do jack shite to help PnR defense.

I'd like to see what we look like with Ryno first. I was all for this trade before the season, but Smith hasn't looked as bad as I thought starting at the 5. With all the problems we've had, it hasn't been at the 5.

If you like your starting center hanging out at the top of the key on offense, then he's your guy.

Sorry y'all. It just trips me out that Smiht hardly ever goes in the paint on offense. It really does.

Obviously not. But Asik's value is only going down, and he's not worth Ryno.
This thinking makes no sense. Asik's value isn't going to go down just because the Rockets are looking to trade him.

Teams who want Asik will be wanting to trade for Asik. Just because they know Houston wants to get rid of him means nothing. The Pelicans can't low ball, because if they do then Asik will end up on another team.

That would only work if the Pelicans were the only team interested in Asik and the Rockets were desperate to get rid of him. But that isn't the case. Asik has real value.

Maybe not a huge deal if there are a ton of teams lining up to get a guy, but I don't think that will be the case. You really think that, if Houston had a pure PF of Asik's talent level, that it would cost another team the same to get Asik as it would the hypothetical PF?

Actually it is. They have less leverage because it looks like they are being pressured to trade him. I think the bigger hit on his value though is his contract. If you take him on now, you basically pay $20 million for a $16 million cap hit. The longer it takes to trade him the closer that figure gets to paying $14 million real dollars for an $8 million cap hit. That's like paying a luxury tax to get Asik. Now look at how so many teams seem alergic to paying taxes and you see the number of potential buyers shrink. Fewer buyers = lower price. It's definitely in Houston's interest to sell sooner rather than later on Asik. No reasonable offers refused.
