It will take searching in the fields on your own in the field, or some ones eyeballs seeing it still standing.

I saw some for sale at the Menge Avenue Flea Market on I-10 near Pass Christian, MS yesterday.

In the past, I've seen it at the French Market in the Quartet.

I'm lost...you want sugar cane for a turkey? I'm assuming that is something popular that I've never heard of...and I grew up chewing on a piece of sugar cane broken off in the field on the reg.

You use the cane for smoke.

Damn, I've never heard of that. Do you mix it in with chips or just go straight cane? How's this go down?

New to me as well. I've never heard of anything smoked with cane. I'd be willing to give it a whirl

Yeah you just throw a couple nice sized stalks on the coals instead of whatever other kind of wood you're using, depending on what you're smoking. I wouldn't do it with a brisket or anything but it goes well with a turkey. I have a pretty atypical thanksgiving turkey smoke procedure, but its damn good.

They're still harvesting up around Whiteville. That's on I-49 towards Alexandria.

On my lunch break a couple days ago I was watching some guys chop a field by near my work. I picked half a 5 gallon bucket and chewed on a couple pieces for old times sake. Its not "late" in the season..... right at the midway point. You shoukdnt have any trouble finding any.

Tell your wife to head over to 3127, when she sees a harvester working stop and pick up some on the loading area. Bring a bucket, she can fill it up.

My back yard backs up to a cane field. They haven't harvested yet. I think I could probably go grab some. I have a vacuum packer too. Email me and I'll see if I can get to it without having to jump my fence. I usually can but sometimes my path gets over grown. Mguidry at Dofs dot net.

Fitzmorris smokes his turkeys with sugarcane. I haven't tried it. Does it stink like the sugar mills do?

It shouldn't unless he's using the bagasse.
