Have they explained what its purpose is? Does it allow the drinker to drink it without having to taste it or something?

I've said it many times, but craft beer needs to get in on that punch top. Makes for a really smooth pour.

Like people said, makes the pour smoother. Like when you use the puncture thing on canned foods.. you always puncture both sides.

Between this and the vortex bottle: ML is a gamechanger, changing the game.

They did it back in the 60's and 70's, but people left the tops everywhere and they posed a danger to people.

Yes, and I remember being able to adjust metal detectors so that they wouldn't beep for the pull tabs. The consolation was that it wouldn't beep for nickels.

Those pull tab things were EVERYWHERE including sandy beaches and would easily cut your feet.

The can hole thing is nothing new though. To originally solve the problem of that pull tab litter, some went to cans that had two "buttons" that you depressed into the can, just like the can hole. One was larger where you would pour the beer from, and one was small for an air vent. They were a pain to open.
